Personally I'm not really sure. I listened to both of these albums, but neither seem to be as groovey as roots

A vaguely similar complaint, It's not the same thing, but on the next album, they have this sorta japanese theme in the artwork. It's there on the album cover, inthe booklet, and they even go to japan to meet up with this japanese drumming group called Kodo.

I'm not familiar with traditional japanese music, but I didn't really see any elements on the other tracks.

One song is this crazy fierce drumming marathon that sounds like war drums, and the next song is light percussion with girls playing flutes dancing around.

But yeah they only did that one song with them.
