Claude Debussy influenced jazz by introducing non-traditional scales (pentatonic, whole-tone, modal), extended chords (7th, 9th, 11th), parallel motion, and a focus on harmonic color and emotional expression over rigid structure. This approach provided jazz musicians, including Bill Evans, Duke Ellington, and Miles Davis, with new melodic possibilities and a richer harmonic language, contributing to the fluidity and atmospheric soundscapes found in jazz.

meh, you're about Debussy but not about the chronology.
if you go to '20s and early '30s recordings you'll find even more modernist influence because the composers had just recently died or were still alive, then jazz as a whole moved away from that sound and some people brought it back like Bill Evans.

??? theres every instrument in jazz, including stuff invented by Africans and the Chinese. there are no limitations on what instruments you can use in jazz. this isn't the early 20th century anymore lol.
and regardless the people who invented the instruments are rarely the people who invent a genre. a guy from japan invented the Roland 808 but the japanese didn't invent hip-hop.
why do you feel the need to attempt to tear down historical black accomplishments? are you that insecure?

Non-troll answer but to best of anyone's knowledge Jack Laine's marching band is the closest thing to being the point of invention for jazz and that was a mixed race band. Regardless of Jack Laine, anyone who says jazz was invented by one race or another is completely full of shit. It is undoubtedly a music of multiethnic origin both in terms of its founding musicians and also in terms of the music's qualities.

early 70s japanese jazz seems to have been very inspired but still sticking close to tradition. i havent heard that many records from it but it sounds like it meaningfully builds on the american jazz tradition without actually throwing away the "tradition" part of the music, it doesnt go full free jazz and it doesnt go all in on fusion, soul or funk commercialism

I suppose it's somewhat more stylistically rigid if you compare it to post-bop, but that's just because post-bop is an outlier in that it's meant to be exploratory and rather all-encompassing.

Not that there isn't diversity also in bebop, for example incorporation of latin elements etc.

>No it isn't
Um, it actually usually is.
>Why would it be?
I think he was trying to quote a Miles or Monk line, it's a pretty basic and well-established trend that jazzers shift and change, whether it's joining a new band or augmenting a trio into a quartet. If he's saying all jazz bands do that then that would be weird and retarded, but, if you're saying that doesn't happen at all then that's even more retarded.
>it's just a genre of music
No, we're far past that point. Jazz is more than old enough to have developed its own recognizable stylistic signatures, evolving into an idiom, a set of musical rhythms and vocabularies that distinguish it from blues or classical or folk, etc. To you it might just be another form of background noise, but to people without a superficial connection or understanding of it, it's a lot more complex. And many people do like it because of the constantly changing line ups, not to say that there aren't diehard fans of the more stable line ups like the Brubeck Quartet, Coltrane Quartet, one of the two major Miles Quintets, etc.

Why are you so offended on behalf of Sun Ra? I hope he realized that Egyptians weren't black because that would be a pretty low IQ mistake from someone who tried to act as some sort of spiritual guru.

Unironically better than the cowboy bee-boop soundtrack, especially because this album actually has more than 2 moods. Anime jazz is invariably either spergy big band/bop or le sophisticated noir detective vibes with smoke and mist at nighttime - in other words, fashion statements and larps.

NTA but considering overblowing sounds completely different on a tenor vs a baritone, a good player vs a bad one, a sax vs a flute, scripted vs improvised, there's no easy way to answer such a vague, lifeless question like that. It would involve "a lot of words" to say the least, and you've made it clear you're not interested in that. You might as well be asking him "what does F# mean to you"
