Regardless of Jack Laine, anyone who says jazz was invented by one race or another is completely full of shit. Jazz is more than old enough to have developed its own recognizable stylistic signatures, evolving into an idiom, a set of musical rhythms and vocabularies that distinguish it from blues or classical or folk, etc. To you it might just be another form of background noise, but to people without a superficial connection or understanding of it, it's a lot more complex. And many people do like it because of the constantly changing line ups, not to say that there aren't diehard fans of the more stable line ups like the Brubeck Quartet, Coltrane Quartet, one of the two major Miles Quintets, etc.

They say it's wonderful by coltrane and hartman is great, amazing music. The Jazz essential picture is a huge help as I tend to just listen to the same jazz over and over again
