I think out of the two (since I think they're near identical in quality) ItG is the superior one, but only slightly. I tell ya' the difference between that album and HtE (still a good record mind you) is pretty steep

I do too but the wankery prevents me from calling that album fantastic, because Thunderpick is like fuckin 4 minutes long and is not fun to listen to for a single goddamned second
>Maybe two albums a year was too much for them to handle.
Judging how the next one came out a few years afterwards (wasn't fighting the world '86?) that's probably the culprit, yeah
>>127681677
I can't believe they put Thunderpick on that album. I mean Joey is a good bass player and all but that track is just stupid.
Into Glory Ride beats Battle Hymns if not by musical feats then simply because of the corniest unironic album cover. It's great though.

Don't Close Your Eyes is a fucking rancid ballad and Rock Me is generic glam but the rest of the album is incredible and a sizable step up in quality from Children of the Flame. Though because of those two songs (seriously I wanted to drill my ears in during that goddamned ballad, I FUCKING HATE the vocals on that track), I can't call this album better than that one.

One of the only albums I've ever gotten that trifecta with. This is a very solid album that's reminiscent of early '80s JP if they had more of a USPM slant to their sound, were a tad heavier, and had (for the most part, there are some outliers like the title track and Star Pilot here) Christian lyrics.

This is mostly it, yeah. Underground releases had fuck all for budget most of the time so the album cover would either be designed by the band or some random artist. You don't really get that homemade charm nowadays because I'd imagine most bands just commission something online now.

And even though I've already decided that Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood won't be on that one (namely because everyone knows about those records and any beginner to these threads is pretty much guaranteed to have listened to them by now, also RiB is just too heavy of an album to have on the main chart), that still doesn't account for the DOZENS of amazing albums released that year.

Starts off kind of weak with an instrumental + two songs that don't leave much of an impression, but as soon as you hit the halfway point the quality across all fronts skyrockets and does not decline for the rest of its runtime.

Just not a good album. It starts off with a very good first song (obviously had more effort put into it since it's the title track) but after that it's a slow descent into mediocrity.

This has been on my redo list for months, and my opinion of it didn't really change. I still LOVE the sharp guitar tone on this album, and Akira's work across the board is phenomenal; but the actual music itself is just pretty good. Personally I prefer the highs off Disillusion more than anything off of this record.

Oof. WASP's second album suffers from that a lot. Like there's some damn good stuff after Wild Child, but nothing else on the album (except maybe Blind in Texas) reaches that standard.

Surprisingly solid, and for a band that's 45 years old this is about as good as you can reasonably hope for. My only real complaint is that this (and pretty much any modern album) record sounds pretty sterile, there's not a lot of grit here and it all sounds quite processed. But that's just the industry standard now so I won't hold it against the album. (Also YouTube only has this song available so I can't link any others. Not much of a loss though, The Spider was easily the best song of the lot.)

I think that's a blessing in disguise. Too many bands (namely Anthrax, have you seen how fucking long their latest albums are?) feel obligated to put as much material in a new album as possible, but since most of them don't know the meaning of the term "quality control" they usually leave in a lot of bloat. I'd much rather have quality>quantity.

Alright so the chart maker decided to shit itself and not save 1984's template, so in order to add Helstar I have to redo the whole damn thing. I'm taking this as an opportunity to do some tweaks, namely removing a few of the more popular releases and adding in some more obscure ones. You'll see the changes once I finalize the chart. =)

Is there anyone here who owns a Katana and uses it to get heavy metal tones? For instance, what channel would be more appropriate for a metal tone? There's like a clean channel, a brown channel, a lead channel, a crunch channel, a pushed channel and an acoustic channel. Wha about the EQ? I have read that people cut the very low end of the frequency range and they also cur the high end of the frequency range. They do this to have less noise and make the guitar fit the mix, right? But what about the other frequencies, what people do with them? What metal players like to do? Ley's say I want to get a classic Sabbath sound and I know the band used Laney amps in the early days and Tony had a treble booster, a modified treble booster, plus his Gibson SG. So I know I need distortion and I could get the the a little bit closer to the black sabbath sound in the song black sabbath, when I played the riff it kind felt big and heavy, but when I tried the fast riff, the one before the solo, it was not "chugging". You know when you play palm mute and it gives a percursive sound to the note kind of? Yeah, I wasn't getting that, it wasn't sounding good. So while the distortion whas there I think the frequencies were not.
