you don't actually believe that, do you? even if you hold KC accountable for creating prog with their debut, the merit goes to Ian McDonald, who was the main songwriter, arranger, producer and resposible for the album's trademark sound with the mellotron, woodwinds and keyboards
fripp was just at the right place at the right time
all his attempts at emulating the success of the first album were pathetic. KC was only ever good when extraordinary and creative musicians pushed the band into new interesting directions

The dark, heavy edge of ITCOTCK was ans much influenced by Fripp as the folksy whimsy was influenced by McDonald. They were the yin and yang of the original lineup, combining each other’s starkly contrasting musical dispositions into one all encompassing epic of an album is what made it work. Giving all the credit to either of them is stupid and petty, as is ignoring or dismissing Fripp’s role in assembling the talent of later lineups and defining their musical and philosophical identities. Like him or not, he is a founding father of prog.

fripp was the style, mcdonald was the substance; hence why ITWOP sounds more 'hollowed out' while still retaining the exact same atmosphere to it, and McDonald and Giles has the same soul despite being a thematic antipode. While I certainly have my Bias, I think everyone interested in this debate should listen to each writer's respective songs from the Brondesbury Tapes and put their own say to who really invented prog

you serious?
Prog was started by the Nice and Procol Harum in 67 (it was psychedelic rock with classical influence), and in the next years people started to mix rock with classical. ITCOTCK was the album that defined the genre, but it didnt start it

wetton jams can be really hit or miss. you're not going to like every single improv from the sets, but a couple of the improvs should become new favorite KC songs. If you like how they perform the normal songs too, then yeah you'll get a real kick out of it. It's like starless and bible black if it just went on and on and on. No I wouldn't call it the best KC Live album but it's maybe the most exhaustive in it's fullness

arguably starless and bible black because it gives you a glimpse of everything TGD has to offer you, but not five hours long. sabb aside, I can't pick one in specific because none of them are exactly perfect, although I do have a favorite from each era. But if you put a gun to my head and told me to just say one, the first that comes to mind is the Frejus concert from Neal and Jack and Me
