I don't get it, /mu/. I've tried getting into all of these musicians, who are held in high regard as some of the most creative and groundbreaking female artists in pop music.
Still, there's nothing remarkable about them. A couple of nice songs here and there, but not a single album of them that's actually incredible or brilliant.
I don't see the point really. Not even trying to be sexist or anything, but maybe it's just not in me to care about these broads' music

If you can't hear the creativity in Suspended in Gaffa or the power in night of the swallow the problem is in you. Or her screams at the end of big sky christ those are good

I love Spiritual Jazz, Post-Bop, MPB, Prog, Classic Rock and some Folk
I expected to really dig those art-pop chicks, but they did very little for me

Where are you starting with Kate Bush? Wuthering Heights put me off at first bc she sounded way too much like a harpy, but Hounds of Love was a much more approachable entry point.

Bjork idk man just listen to hyperballad and the beatboxing song and if you dont like it you dont like it.

>joni mitchell
pretty basic old school girl folk, nothing spectacular
>bjork
very unique and off time compositions but very much "pop" oriented even if its experimental, Vespertine is the album
>patti smith
Horses and Easter and Radio Ethiopia are good post punk but the band itself isn't gonna do anything to blow your mind, post punk like Television is actually interesting
>Kate Bush
best of the bunch dreaming is her experimental masterpiece and Hounds of Love is the perfect balance of experimental and her pop leanings, especially Side A, this is the best artist truly of your list
>Lauryn Hill
I'm ignorant

there I evaluated them with my expansive knowledge

nice projection
none of the stuff I've listed is particularly "cool" or "hip"
not trying to fit in, just want to enjoy or see what's good in something that a lot of people happen to love

Well OP, the obvious problem is that these are all token fraud hack pseud queeffers. Try Alice Coltrane, Nico, Karen Dalton, Nancy Sinatra or fucking Adele (unironically, that fatty can sing). There's a plethora of female soul singers with great albums: Ann Peebles, Mavis Staples, Betty Davis, many more.

Don't get stuck on whatever stupid meme wymyn music is pushed, it's just lowest common denominator garbage upheld by armies of boomer simps.

I'll add that kate bush is the absolute opposite of lowest common denominator. Most normies simp or not can't wouldn't even call her big albums music besides kick inside which is more basic

I've literally seen hordes of boomers digitally coom up internet fora over the fact she did a comeback concert, and most of these were real radical retards that listen to obscure shit like The Cure and Counting Crows and OK Computer

Having said that, Kate Bush is by far the best, most original and unique musician in that list.

>>127713934
don't you fucking talk shit about Nico, none of these are fit to tie her SS engraved shoelaces

>Kate Bush

I'm not telling you what to do. I'm not going to try and influence you. I'm not going to say terrible things about you. I won't even try to sway you in any way possible. I'll just say that The Dreaming is where you start with Kate Bush. If you can't even with that. They try again when the stars align later. I'm not saying that it will happen for you. But it's there, maybe not right now, but sometime soon in the future there is The Dreaming, and I'm not saying it is definitely going to happen, but The Dreaming is there like a specter in whatever room you are currently occupying. I'm not saying that it is unavoidable but in many ways it is, don't think that I'm trying to influence you in anyway because I'm definitely not trying to do that here, okay. Enjoy what you enjoy. Life is good.

I liked Chelsea Wolfe initially in that phase of my music listening journey where I was listening to more "goth music" (i.e. gothic rock, industrial and adjacent genres) partly to learn more about them but mostly so I could use that information to try and hit on goth girls. Nowadays I've moved past that shit because it's stupid and I know better, and "real" goth girls aren't anything like the stupid alt-girl/goth girl mommy meme and don't care for guys who want goth girl gfs. Actual goth girls who go to actual goth raves are a lot weirder, and depending on how shitty the venue is, really aren't girls you wanna be around. That being said, if you're actually into goth music and the culture and wanna meet people in those places to form connections, go for it. They'd be more open if you actually care about the culture. Otherwise don't even bother.

Anyways, point is that I'd probably dislile Chelsea Wolfe more on a relisten. At the very least, she got me into post-metal, so that's a plus.

Patti Smith is music for the most hardcore feminist Gloria Steinem boomers and should best be forgotten, almost every version of Because The Night is better than hers.
Kate Bush is memetic if you don't get it believe me you are a total fool to bring her up at a party in 2025-26
Bjork is a Greatest Hits artist or it really helps if you get a Wikipedia of what each albums overall "theme" is so that you enter the headspace she wants you too be in. Also get Spacial Audio if possible, its life changing.
Lauryn Hill is literally just Miseducation, you heard it didn't like it its okay move on.
