>Filosofem is the best Burzum album
Yep, this is definitely the prevailing popular opinion when it comes to Burzum. Even normies with no interest in black metal could probably tell you Filosofem is "totally peak Burzum man".
Which of course is a major red flag. When someone says Filosofem is the best Burzum album I immediately know they're a pseud/poser/massive newfag simply parroting what they believe to be the correct opinion on 2nd wave black metal so they sound like they know what they're talking about. I mean, why is it that NPCs who have never even listened to any Black Metal seem to know what the best Burzum album apparently is?
Oh yeah probably because Varg is the most notorious metal musician on earth. Because everyone has heard of that crazy Norweigan metalhead guy who killed that other Norweigan metalhead guy. And Filosofem was awaiting release when Varg's murderous mischief made headlines around the world and got him sentenced to 21 years in prison. The hype around Filosofem was insane for what had previously been an incredibly obscure underground genre with purposefully anti-populist ideals and abrasive lo-fi production values. Burzum went from having literally a few thousand listeners worldwide to suddenly millions of people wanting to know what all the fuss was about. So when Filosofem finally dropped in 1996 - two years after Varg had sliced and diced Euronycorpse - it was a really big deal. For 99% of people It's the first time they ever heard Burzum and probably the first time they heard black metal or any "extreme metal" for that matter. And it's a great album. Definitely deserving of its status as a black metal classic. But it's not the best Burzum album. Not even close. Even Varg will tell you that.
Only the trve kvlt elders know the truth. Ancient wisdom so fiercely gatekept that only one post in this thread got it right.
