yeah, if you deconstruct the phenomenology of male child concern, a lot of it (not all) is actually mediated through a primary concern for the mother, as in they care about their kid because the mother does. that's why you'll sometimes see guys who lose all interest in their kids after a divorce and start bitching about even basic levels of support
this is also probably why i think human evolution favours female attractiveness more than most other species. a hotter mother = more protection for the kids
