Ignorance. They're often newer to or more casual with metal/hardcore/etc., so they're easily impressed by guitar tones, production, and big dumb chugs. The more in your face, percussive, and distorted a breakdown or riff is, the moar heavierer it is. I think that's why stuff like Lorna Shore is popular in pseudo-normieville, it jingles all the "heavy" keys as hard possible.

Possibly. Maybe the "heavy music" coreshitters are in the bubble, arguably we're both in bubbles with how subcultures and now recommendation algorithms work.

There is a certain kind of black metal that seems to be really popular yet I absolutely can't stand it. Hyper-melodic, blisteringly fast with little to no tempo changes, "epic" clean production, and exclusively tremolo picked. I've taken to calling this music "Rousingslop" because it is usually described as "rousing, triumphant, glorious, valiant", etc.

What would you call this brand of black metal, and what are some more bands like this so that I can know to AVOID THEM? Vothana is an exception to the "clean production" part, I would also like to avoid bands like this even if they have shitty production.

Dark Funeral don't fit that bill. I guess their recent albums might have production that some people would consider to be too clean, but they have a lot of slower songs as well as chugcaviars and solosouffles. Lord Belial is probably more melodic than them. Not to mention dedicated "melo" stuff like Naglfar.

Not to my taste, anyway. Better than some deathcore I've heard, but it's not even as good as early 200SW, which does a better job of being both death metal and hardcore. It just leaves a lot to be desired, as someone who often listens to death metal. The muddy guitar tone doesn't help either.

Man, how many of these tracks pull a lazy fade out to end the song? Abhorrent Contraception has like two kinda memorable themes it goes back and forth between before fading out without resolution, and even the closing track fades out on an "atmospheric" part and vanishes like a fart in the wind. And it's a crappy-sounding fadeout that goes from quiet but still audible, to suddenly silent in an instant. Terrible songwriting choices.

They do. DF can be chordal but it is always melodic. I've listened to all DF, it's fully tremolo picked and has like 2 solos in total. Lord Belial varies from song to song from more melodic than average DF to basic bitch slop. I like Lord Belial when they're pushing boundries and being melodic, but on average DF is almost always preferable.
