Many factors.
As far as music, there is both a critique and a strength of K-Pop, which is that there is not one musical genre that K-Pop is restricted to. Many groups dip their toes into a variety of music styles, appeasing international tastes.
K-Pop idols put significantly more effort into advanced choreography and live singing. This is a testament to the more rigorous training standards for K-Pop idols, which fans often appreciate. Music videos + stage performances + live shows all emphasize a performance aspect beyond just a music track without accompanying visuals.
In addition to all that performance content, more entertaining variety / candid content is managed and produced to show their funny, vulnerable, "human," side. Traditional Western media is often stale cookie-cutter interview format, with only few notable exceptions.
Fandom interaction is much better with K-Pop groups compared to top Western music artists, of course as a highly conscious marketing decision. Greater connection is fostered between fans and K-Pop idols through the higher content output and fan interaction.
