Everyone is claiming this was a random stabbing, but it's clear what was actually happening: his killers were driven to take his life solely for the sake of clout. They wanted infamy of their own and found it in stabbing down a 48-year old.

As Ian was taking his final breath, he was surrounded by kids taking video and pictures of him. Why? For clout. No one was taking his pulse, no one was calling 911, everyone was standing around with their phones out as his body was clinging to life.

The moral lesson of Watkin's life story should be a cautionary tale of the horrors of social media and how it's fucked our society beyond belief.

Watkins is a very extreme case though. It's not hard to see the damage that would do. You’re confusing the UK with the US justice system where they slap a gorillion consecutive sentences on you for basically one crime that broke several slightly different laws. In the UK the maximum is 5 years for possession (would have to be a lot or repeat offender) and 14 years for supply and distribution but again actually serving that long a sentence would be rare in this day and age given prison overcrowding.
