I unironically think the melodic side of Metallica is better than their heavy side, aside from maybe Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets.
The Black Album is the perfect blend.
And their ballads in general, in every album, are better than most metal ballads out there. Like, just compare it to A7x, their ballads suck ass.

This is why I can't hate them even though I have people telling me that they're either a children's band because they were popular with high schoolers or sellouts because Matt isn't screaming anymore.
Their self titled album is one of the most unique records in the cesspool that was 2000s metal. I'm surprised it even got this popular.

they only switched to clean singing because the vocalist got an infection on his vocal nodes or something. it was a health decision first and foremost but also proved good career-wise

Whoever saves metal hasn't come along yet. All the big metal bands are growing gray or already there, getting up there in years, and don't ahve a lot of years left. Whoever comes in behind them when they all retired to be as big or close as to as big as they were is who saves metal. That band doesn't exist yet.
