I'm trying to get into music. I've enjoyed being sung to on my birthday but that was mostly for the occassion. I also think music can make a scene in a movie better because it lets me know how I should feel about what's going on. Besides that I haven't ever liked listening to music. So please leave suggestions for something a begginer listener could enjoy.

I play this for my little ones before bed. I think you'll quite enjoy it, very meditative and relaxing.

I'm having trouble on my end connecting to the video it seems. I'll let you know my thoughts when my connection gets restored.

I see that commenters said the song never actually starts. If they are failing to understand this song as experienced listeners then I have no hope of achieving that as a noobie.

Oh my, that is quite an image. I will admit to enjoying nipples on the longer side, but I'll leave it at that. As for the song, it's quite difficult to listen to the entire thing without muting it or turning down the volume considerably. I must prioritize my health and leave this song for another day.

If you like movie soundtracks, then listen to that. If you feel like progressing further, go back in time to the stuff that influenced Hollywood music like Holst, Mahler and Wagner. Try watching a beginner friendly opera like Pagliacci or Tosca.

Likewise if you want to develop more normie or hipster tastes just look up “different genres of rock/pop/hip hop explained” type videos on YouTube or top ten best albums in a specific genre lists. This is a turbo pleb thing to do and you should never brag about it, but we’ve all gotta start somewhere and any of these suggestions will get your foot in the door.

Tell me a little more about why you want to start listening to music. Are you a “this is what normal people do and I want to appear normal” type of person or are you coming at it from more of a “learning to appreciate a different form of art will make me a more well rounded person so I want to teach myself to ‘get’ it” angle?

I'm sorry but I do not have the time to listen to a song this long. It's pretty shocking to me that there are songs that go on for that long though, so thanks for letting me know about that.

Thanks for the advice. To answer your question, it's because I've decided (in conversations with my therapist) that it would be good for me to get a hobby. I'm told listening to music is a pretty universal hobby so that is why it's first on my list.

A beginner could enjoy starting slowly by calm playlists like, lofi jazz, ambient, dark ambient, you can easily find these on YouTube.

If you are curious about rock bands and you are noveau you might enjoy led zeppelin, the beatles or joy division.

You can also search for videogame ost like the one from skyrim, which is my favourite one.

Okay, I've put this video on my watch later list: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R0UYHS8A_A

I'm not very experienced with video games either, so I'll follow your lead and add the Skyrim music to my watch later list as well.

Feel free to keep leaving suggestions for me, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to walk away and take care of things offline for now. Thank you everyone.
