His 'composing' is the same as zoomers clicking through the computer programs piano roll. He had no concept of what shit sounded like when he wrote music, he just scribbled notes. He wasn't a visionary, he was a creepy tryhard nerd that read books to learn how to notate music to show off, then just scribbled shit down and betas played it for him

He’s both great and total shit. It’s really quite an accomplishment.

He may be great at guitar techniques, but musically he just sucks major ass. I guess he understood it, hence Bobby Brown, but the very most of his stuff is just overly and unnecessarily complicated. It just doesn't work and his audience were a huge part of this pseudo-intellectual circle jerk.
His attempt to arrange an orchestra and the statement "i had to pay it all by myself" is none the less pathetic.

He understood politics well, but as a musician he represents the poorest form of narcissism - nobody understands my genius.

Beefheart is like 200 tiers of quality above z*ppa, one actually wrote good songs, the other just jacked off and recorded it

My new friend knew i was into 'out there' music so he told me hey listen to zaapa itll heckin blow your mind, it was his fav artist. Zappas rat face always put me off so i avoided his "music", but then since my friend insisted i listened to 1/10 of a track and then i told him "my brother, this shit sucks massive balls, youre listening to this bc you were told to, you were told it was good, it is not". He eventually stopped listening to this dreck, i bullied him for years about it, nonetheless.

i had been hearing his name since i was like 8 (i'm a 26 yo zoomer) so i finally decided to sit down and listen to some of his albums. there's some really good shit, a lot of really bad shit, some really weird shit (the kind that i'm not sure if i'd end up really loving or really hating upon repeated listens), so i see where the praise comes from but he's not for me.

that said, watermelon in easter hay immediately became one of my favorite songs ever. made me feel things and it's such a simple song overall.

Well you did honestly try. I'm not a Zappa fan but noodling aside, that's a song I can happily listen to. Thank you.

There was an interview with one of his band members who said at some point in a tour they would get a song sounding really good, but Frank didn't want that and he would change it or take it in another direction that they didn't like as much.

I can only imagine the dissapointment of OP when he realized after studying zappas music for 15 years that it was garbage
Anonymous No.128106206 [Report]
the ultimate redpill is to deny. zappa is not art music, and he failed at making art music. he is not an artist, he is a comedian. he makes funny kitschy fart psychedelic music. he was the jimmy pop of the 60s. the mothers were the bloodhound gang of the 60s.
