Staind should be included in the metal archives based on this album.

he's pointing out the hypocrisy of including nu metal bands that started off not being/grew out of nu metal. like soulfly.

if tool is not there then there is no reason this should be.

Surely not being included on Metal Archives is a badge of honor?

Good album especially love the opener. The Fred durst story is iconic too

Which is why they are included.

How is this album comparable to tool? Isn't tool actually prog? is it just some of the aesthetics and singing style?

Soulfly were way more metal than this

he sounds exactly like maynard. single note minor scale drop d riffs.

I'm actually kinda arguing that (at least in terms of riffs) staind wasn't (just?) nu-metal in their first album. I dunno the exact definition of nu-metal, but that's kinda what it feels like to me.

I think lot of the riffs are similar to traditional metal, or groove metal like pantera. It's also a lot heavier and rawer (due to the production) than their later albums.

wait, TOOL is not metal? how?

what's metal about them? it's just hard rock.

I agreed with the sinigng comparison.

Tool riffs (and songs) seemed more complex to me. Are you talking about staind's first album or the later ones?

the album you posted. listen to opiate or undertow by tool.

whats the difference between alt-metal and regular metal?

It doesn't seem accurate to just call TOOL hard rock.

"regular metal" is a broad category.

but they are basically just hard rock band that rips off king crimson riffs once in a while

Are riffs like this alt metal? To me they feel like "regular" metal.

Lmao have you ever looked at the forums at metal archives? These days its a bunch of trannys crying and getting offended by everything. Sad state of metalheads these days

I dont think they were talking about the proggy aspects of tool, but rather the metallic aspects of tool (earlier especially)

they obviously are, metalheads in general are literally retarded which explains nonsense such as "metal archives"

literally nothing metal about them

Could both of you elaborate on your standpoint?

What makes their riffs (not) metal?

I'll have to go relisten to it and compare them. I dont really remember much of them.

What does it say about me that I liked* tormented more than those albums?

*or at least was able to vibe with the album quicker.
