there are still plenty of oldfags on /mu/ but the sad reality is that /mu/ is a zoomer and advertiser shill board now that's better for shitposting than actual music discussion. despite this id argue that the overall quality of the board is much better now than it has been in quite a few years

now take that and let's say a dozen more random albums from that list and you will have the average experience of a newer /mu/ user who's come to realize this conception of /mu/core ought to be disregarded

these albums are from a certain period in time, i think a lot are still good but it's very 2010s coded
i don't see a 2020s /mu/core being very good but it'd be interesting to see, i still think a lot of these are decent but don't know what i'd put in a new /mu/core, plus if anyone sincerely tried it'd be shred into a million pieces upon first contact

well it's been 10 years, i'm not saying throw the baby out with the bathwater, i don't think there's consensus as to what's good, more like just people know what's popular and talk about it, no muh epic deep indie cuts like used to be the 'vibe' but maybe board is just so populated it can't be anything but le epic shitpost
obscure just to be obscure is obnoxious but just liking what's popular isn't very adventurous either, dunno how you'd make a new list

we could try starting from fresh, refreshing our ears, and mass voting on individual albums, or make a committee or something (probably bad idea as that 'committee' would greatly shape the chart from their own biases)
issues: can easily be manipulated, probably a lot more
and personally i have some sacred cows I don't want gone if tastes have shifted

I don't like Nirvana, Drive Like Jehu, Unwound, and I think while Getting Killed is overrated right now /mu/ has been talking about it and praising it for enough to deserve being on a /mu/core chart. The jazz stuff is based on history and what listening to what fellow jazz listeners and players have said for years. Ride Nowhere is a must listen and The New Sound is some /mu/ jazz fusion

Why isn't there more hip-hop? There's only MF DOOM and Death Grips who both have a plenty of representation on the original chart. Why not put something more recent or some artists that aren't on the original chart(I think JPEGMAFIA would be fine). F#A# is already on the 2015 one. I wouldn't put the new Ariel Pibk album on there since it's fairly recent(couple of weeks) and I haven't seen much discussion about it unlike Getting Killes. /mu/core sucks. If we want this to really be /mu/core, it needs to have a bunch of redundant k-pop albums that take over the whole chart

you need real ears to hear /mu/core people say it sucks now, but they're just dismissing it from surface level noise, they don't actually analyze it
an anon said /mu/core would be dead because taste is bad today
people will just listen to the surface level noise and not the deeper meaning, most of /mu/core has a deeper meaning to it besides what your ear first hears, but you need to pay actual attention to hear it, something lost in our tiktok smartphone era.

They moved on for good reasons, you should probably too.

Past a point, an infection gets bad enough where theres not much you can do, if anything.
Look into the "indie websphere" or whatever. Nearly all /mu/core has it's respect in the albums' niche or circles, so be aware of what you like and try to get involved in those scenes.
They still and will always exist...
