When did Math Rock go from jazz chords, angular riffsl unconventional meter modulation, weird fuzzes/effects, etc. to 4/4 twinks tapping shitty nonsense in the cleanest possible guitar tone?

When the initial emo revival decided that american football and capn jazz were the only emo bands that ever existed. This Town Needs Guns probably had something to do with it too

>angular riffs
What does this even mean? I see this used all the time but have no idea what people actually mean.

it's been 4/4 twinks tapping much longer than it has whatever you described in the beginning, and even then, that really was only a few bands

I dont know but math rock has nothing to do with math, its literally just about removing excess notes that repeat at a given moment in the guitar strumming or whatever the fuck. And letting the tuning do some of the work because the open notes already sound good asf. Thats literally it.

The only MATHY thing on it is that Chinks like it almost as much as white people if not more.

It's pretty much just Don Cab and Storm & Stress that actually sound like that thoughbeit.

Though this sound was probably taken from Omni and they might have found inspiration in 80s postpunk bands

This whole thing is literally within a single octave. >>128130797 he's a good example of actually angular playing.

Well then a lot on Siouxsies' The Scream album sounds very angular, with dissonant riffs and lots of tonal jumps across the scales

it's what guitarists who couldn't afford music lessons say to sound smart. i used to see the term applied to thelonious monk all the time, but i dont like his play style so i dunno if it has any real meaning among pianists

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Can anyone post examples of the early math rock to the twinky shit he describes later on? I really don't hear much "jazz" in any math rock whatsoever
