Following other users with good taste is a valuable way of discovering new music, this is a good way of filtering the worthless users

i know how much of a scrooge it makes me sound like but it shows that you don't enjoy critically analyzing music at all (i.e. don't care about it that much)

I do intend to own the original pressing of every single of my top 20 albums eventually, but it's way too expensive to buy one, instead of a replica made several years later, also, some are much harder than others to buy/find, it's way easier to buy the original Collide With The Sky, than the 1972 pressing of Ziggy Stardust.

I don't rate singles either. I have a finite amount of time.

I have under 1000 ratings, I don’t rate singles (I feel like there are a bunch of 5 star singles but I want to keep my 5 stars elite), and I probably have “rockist” taste, because rock is my favorite genre. Other than that I’m the goat.

there's a lot of good music that was only released as a single, duh
see: non-album singles, EDM, punk, pop, early-mid 20th century jazz and folk...

>has a shitload of Beatles in 5.0
I don't even hate the beatles that much in fact they have some good stuff, but having 4+ 5.0 beatles albums is the ultimate signifier that you have no brain at all, you don't actually like music, you shouldn't be allowed to have a computer, and are most likely indian or something. I've never seen one of these people who has a whole stack of beatles in their fives and thought "wow this guy can really point me in the right direction of finding good stuff" it has always 100% consistently been bullshit

I mark singles that I buy under 'collection' and sometimes track rate them but never really rate the issues. just a bunch of needless bloat

You can tell people are music snobs pretending to like stuff, when their 10/10 is made up of >90% consensus acclaimed albums, but nearly all the artists in there only have 1/2 albums. People who rate Abbey Road, Tpab, Miseducation of Lauryn, Wish You Were Here/TDSOTM, Ziggy Stardust, A Love Supreme etc... a 10/10, giving 0 clue about what they actually like, but ranking all the less acclaimed albums by that artist way lower, if at all. I've seen this a lot, people who rate Ziggy Stardust a 10, but don't actually care about glam rock, and only have 1 other Bowie album in there, while not bothering to rate anything other than the 70s acclaimed stuff (+ Blackstar) it's clear they aren't fans, and feels fake as hell, they rate that way just to appear "cultured".

>>exclusively listens to modern classical composers like Feldman, Xenakis and ignores essentials like Bach, Beethoven
True but it's also quite common that these avant-teens listen to 20th century classical and from the old ones it's usually Bach and only Bach.
It's funny that everybody talks about "acquired taste" only in the context of this kind of "radical" stuff, but not pleasant-sounding (yet masterfully crafted) music like Telemann or Mozart. That's as much of an acquired taste as anything atonal. These people prove it by being filtered by pleasant-sounding tonal music.

Any popular music is an even bigger red flag.

It's usually like that, yes. I mean, I still think he's the greatest composer of all time, but I certainly don't worship him at the expense of all those other brilliant Baroque composers.

Granted I rate singles and music videos too, but I’m still insecure about it. I don’t like much music, but what I do like I love
