Soundcloud rap was the grunge of rap, but all the guys died or went to prison, also covid ruined its momentum.
Drake vs kendrick was like the grand finalie of rap, if that didnt happen the 2020s would have been rap free.

I have a personal theory that each genre gets about 50 years in the mainstream then dies. and rap turned 50 a few years ago.

right now rap is on zombie mode, not realizing its dead yet. kind of like rock in the 2000s
Anonymous No.128272864 [Report] >>128272987
The Kendrick/ Drake feud really felt like the nail in the coffin. Completely manufactured to impress normies and lacking any real consequences. Not to mention most new stuff is very stylistically derivative of either chopped soul instrumentals or rage/Carti blown-out rock crossover. Add in the general American’s fatigue of hood shenanigans and I doubt rap ever regains its former cultural relevance.

rap had a good 30 years in the mainstream, even the 2010s when poptimism came to play and critics were overglazing rap and mainstream music got wittled down to pop and pop rap.

I just thought rock would make a come back if rap died. but they just monkey pawed me and only pop, kpop, and fucking country music is mainstream.

But I agree with the point that this specific type of trolling is exclusive to rap. It probably came from the statement of Jerry Garcia, and the trolls just started to repeat it no stop, without actually leading a discussion where they justified their point or responded to the counterarguments. It doesn't mean that other types of unfair trolling are not done in other genres and people don't have to insist on replying to these respective trolls.

Leaked music is an issue as well. You have fans mad when a rapper releases a mixed and mastered song that fans heard 3 years ago and fell in love with the raw sound of the demo. All leakers should burn in hell.

>If a lot of people keep saying the food in a restaurant sucks then there's likely some truth to it
Even considering food quality as objective, you wouldn't be able to make that conclusion or implication. The food could be great and everyone just be wrong. Fire causes smoke, yes, but everyone saying a proposition doesn't cause its truth value.

It has nothing to do with intelect indeed. People simply like what they are fed, so if all of a sudden all the media broadcasted and promoted classical music, after a while you would have the populace going crazy over it.

Nobody is special for enjoying classical music. I own all the Beethoven symphonies on cd, and i also listen to rap, in fact i attended the kendrick lamar show last summer.

Can't wait for every rapper to include "they say rap is dying" bars in all their upcoming songs.

Yeah but it's unlikely.

Rapping is non melodic. Melody has always been the most important thing in popular music. Specifically vocal melody. A strong vocal melody or hook was always the centerpiece of pop music. Rarely you'd get a half spoken word type of song but that was an exception and usually wasn't completely atonal.

Rap is the first time that you had an entire popular music form where vocals were atonal by design. Which is part of why it has been such a destructive force for music. This was unthinkable until rap came along.

They started inserting rap parts into otherwise traditionally written songs as a way to slowly boil the frog. 'If you throw enough mud it sticks' being the premise.

this but unironically
most major genres have a volume of successful artists/subgenres that is proportional to how much novelty there is in there to explore. that makes them interesting for genre tourism, even if you don't ever jive with it enough to ever return to anything. country and rap are the major exceptions. there's a billion nominal variations of that shit and it all sounds the same. whenever you think a rap song sounds mildly interesting it turns out the quality is 100% attributable to a vastly superior sampled track.
