As a millennial who was deeply embedded in my city's hipster scene in the late 90s/00's, I can tell you that virtually every hipster back then knew about (and liked) MBV and shoegaze.

I get (good) riffs stuck in my head easily, but I don't always remember their place in the songs they're from, or I mix up which song or album the riff is on. Sometimes that's in my favor, because then a riff's appearance is surprising yet still familiar.

My city growing up was all about thrash metal elitism, when out of area bands came by to play shows we would all leave the venue till a local thrash band played. The bands were apart of some wanna be LLN inner circle I believe Witchaven was apart of. Anywho there was alot of church/graveyard desecration when I was in highschool w/ the local metal scene.
The two funnest parties of my life was a death metal party wherein old school death metal was blasting and a jock party because jocks usually came from well off families so there was a ton of chicks and liquor. We would always call the thrash metal bands rich kid punk because they had nice equipment and long hair, the opposite of the punk bands in the area who had to actually work.

Definitely does exist, check out Zuriaake, River Metamorphosis is pretty cool or just check out a whole album. Their live shows look insane at least w/ the crowd energy in China.

Interesting that GoatowaRex doesn't have any Chinese releases under their banner. Handful of Japanese and Korean, as well as lots of the Australian stuff though.
