/trad/ - Traditional Metal
Master Control edition
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWnkjbjln5g

This general is dedicated to the discussion of traditional heavy metal and its many sub-genres. If this is your first time here, please view the link below.
Guidelines: https://pastebin.com/FeVuNsmd

>Is [genre/band/album] fit for /trad/?
If you have to ask this, it probably isn’t and you should take what you want to talk about somewhere else.
>When will charts be added to the OP?
Once we finish all of the main 1980s charts and move onto the '90s.

USEFUL LINKS
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1luaLZfavSeXui9RkO1PZ3U5gAE1XHfkH?usp=drive_link - Giant archive of old metal & rock magazines.
https://www.metal-archives.com/ - Search for your favorite bands and look under the “similar artists” tab.
https://en.metal-tracker.com/ - Bittorrent tracker from Russia, in order to use it you need to have a registered account.
https://rateyourmusic.com/ - Search for albums, charts and lists here. (Some early trad albums have metal as a secondary rather than primary; so when looking for music from the early-mid ‘70s make sure you include heavy metal as a secondary in your filter as well.)

I can see what you mean about Ace, but I'm also kind of stumped you thought their stuff was haphazard, cause what I've always liked about them is that they could take something elementary like a riff switch and get it to sound JUST right. they had very tight control over pacing and dynamics in their music.

It probably has to do something with me not really liking punk-y music unless I'm in the right mood desu. I flat out dislike normal punk rock, and early Motorhead leans much more into that sound than other hard 'n' heavy bands from that time.

A pretty sharp drop in quality from Spellbound. Most of the songs are very simple and focus mostly on catchy choruses ala Def Leppard; which would be fine if they could pull it off. (Which for the most part, they can't.)

highly recommend checking out Twilight of the Gods as well, it feels like a logical, unfollowable endpoint both for this style and for Bathory as a whole. of course that was not meant to be (for long), but it's definitely a unique album in their discography. btw: Paul Lundberg, the drummer on UTSOTBM, is the reason Quorthon pivoted to this epic sound, since he's the guy who got Quorthon hooked on Manowar during those sessions. the aborted Blood on Ice recordings would shortly follow and the rest is history.

Swing and a miss. Production sucks dick, and the songs went in one ear and out the other. Mean Machine was the only song here that I liked.

Nope. The title track was actually my least favorite off the record lol, thought it went on too long and there wasn't enough energy. Also Lemmy's vocal performance sounded kind of retarded.
>always thought this one was overrated.
This record's overrated? Holy shit, how? There's NOTHING HERE THAT WASN'T DONE BETTER ON PREVIOUS ALBUMS!

I think it's just because it introduced the band to a new generation of fans. any album they could've released in its place would end up being nostalgic to a shit load of people.

Fair enough. There was a 3 year gap between Orgasmatron and Another Perfect Day after all.
