Genuinely one of the best music docs ever. No narrative or contrived drama or talking heads, just nothing but the Who being the Who and rocking out.

>Nobody's mentioned Spinal Tap yet
Oh well. The Norwegian equivalent, released in 2000 about a fictional boy band, is on YouTube right now so you can all watch it tonight for free. Get Ready to be Boyzvoiced is fantastic:

Spinal Tap is insincere boomerslop, Rob Reiner doesn't actually enjoy rock music and it makes the movie feel far more mean-spirited than it should.

the Devil and Daniel Johnston is the best /mu/ doc I've ever seen, possibly because Daniel didn't give a shit about what he looked like and was oblivious to even the conception of people making movies to look good. It's the same reason why Crumb is such a great movie.
David Bowie and the thousand other hacks that made the major label big-time, wouldn't have dared, can you imagine, "hey David, why did you throw Mick Ronson under the bus?", "hey Perry Farrell, why do you insist on 60% of the royalties?". And then you have people try and make movies to make the guy seem interesting. Stop trying to make Bruce Springsteen interesting, it isn't working.

the landy parts aren't bad, but the movie could've just been about Brian from the beginning to somewhere around Surf's Up and it might've been a better film.
