hell yes, from the ground up is a great way to understand a genre

bit off topic, but thoughts on mars volta? really enjoy deloused, but I couldn't get through francis the mute, tried a few times, feels off

i used to like them a lot in middle school kinda fell out of it desu but my favorite was always bedlam in goliath

i thought frances and deloused were solid but not exceptional

amputechre was incredibly mediocre and unmemorable so i didnt even bother with the other albums

i found out about atdi a little later and they were solid but didnt really hold my attention outside of a few songs

lol just saw colossamite has both dieterich and rodriguez??? gotta listen to that asap

IDK if that album is anything genius but I like it
Noise rock is cool every so often, when I don't feel like blasting metal or punk.
Thanks to the anon who shared this one

that's my favorite album of theirs, followed by frances the mute. tremulant was my introduction to the mars volta so it'll always have a soft spot in my heart. it kind of shaped my expectations for their subsequent albums. I wanted more songs in the vein of concertina
it's been years since I listened to bedlam. I might have to give it another go. it didn't grab me the first time I listened to it

you will never get as much enjoyment out of music as you could because of your autistic rigid ideas of whats "good" or "real music". textures are just interesting as melodies if you let yourself learn to actually hear them

no deloused opinion? really want to understand if im missing something with francis, the emotional ups and downs that grabbed me on the first one seem too erratic in francis, badly timed even

tbf it takes a while to get there and a lot of noise is really painfully boring

i had to sneak my way into "noise" by way of no wave -> free funk -> free jazz -> free improv -> noise

any newtroon who spent his whole life listening to radiohead and bladee who immediately puts on merzbow or wtv hip japanoise and acts like he "gets" it immediately is a LARPING QUEER AND A TOURIST

I liked deloused, more than bedlam even. Just not as much as the other albums. I like to sing along to the stuff I listen to, and Frances the Mute's title track is very satisfying to sing along with. Also Gemini Cassandra III. The songs I like best of any genre are the ones that make me feel like I'm connecting to the primal creative force of the universe while I'm singing them and those two songs are two do it for me. or at least did it for me. I got muscle tension dysphonia this year. probably from cheap vapes and side sleeping with reflux

DLJ is so awesome

its insane how they were just john reis' side project and his main band was the very unremarkable rocket from the crypt which stole their name from a PHENOMENAL band (rocket from the tombs, pre-dead boys pre-pere ubu, hard recommend)

actually hot snakes are solid but he never topped dlj

For me it was kinda two-pronged. Heavy psych/space rock/krautrock into Japanese PSF records psychedelic noise rock and then into Skullflower into Ramleh into PE

And then the other side was Doom metal into post-rock into free-folk/psych drone into psychedelic drone noise stuff

Took some years

I'm starting to believe the broad sense of the genre "noise rock" unlocks something in the brain of frequency tolerance of how humanity can convey the most primal behavior as a healing mechanism. You don't find this magic generally in other genres that are metal, soft rock, or noise itself.
Anonymous No.128395080 [Report]
>>128393641
maybe not frequency, but happens with dissonance in other avant-garde, experimental genres... schönberg type shit

microtonality and polyrhythm also take some effort to get into, try horse lord's common task or comradely objects
