Some of these are kind of niche, but the Cure have sold 30 million records dude. They are not some obscure old band that zoomers discovered. Same with Alice In chains. My mom knows these bands.

it does genuinely weird me out that duster is some big thing now with sad zoomers.
duster was to winter driving music as pinback was to summer driving music for the 2000's for me. the thought of kids only knowing this music through 5 second clips set to ai landscapes on their phones is creepy to me.

i got to talking to someone young enough to be my daughter about MBV recently, apparently "everything" that is new these days sucks. i probably agree with her about mainstream pop but there is still good stuff coming out in other genres surely. but nice to see the historical documents i grew up with are still being appreciated

Crystal castles are not revived they fizzled
Low was not revived by anyone they strove and strained in the face of imminent death throughout their career. True artists.
TV girl was always zoomercore
Sparklehorse was never revived either
Dean blunt is an old zoomer (good artist tho)
Alex G is zoomercore too
DIIV have never been revived they are always just 'there'
Elliot Smith has been dick ridden since he died, zoomers did nothing
Smiths have been "rediscovered" by every generation, not revived
The Cure have been worshipped by their ever growing cult fanbase since the good ol days, and with good reason
Beach house have always been around
The cranberries have always been famous for their handful of eternal bangers
Grouper is zoomercore, not old
AIC are so popular that they still sell out shows with that hack replacement singer. Not zoomer fueled
Jeff Buckley (see elliot smith)
Mazzy star (see the smiths)

The only ones here that legit got zoomed are Deftones, slow dive, and sweet trip
Anonymous No.128390589 [Report]
None of these artists needed "reviving."

So instead of making their own music, zoomies are taking credit for "reviving" music made by Gen X and millennials?
Anonymous No.128394138 [Report]
>>128387765 (OP)

What do you mean "singlehandedly revived"? Many of those artists were old even when Millennials picked up on them 15 years ago.

It's up to each generation to keep cool things in the zeitgeist. Call it digital antiquing.

MBV are late-Boomers, who were enjoyed during their run by Gen-Xers. Millennials got told by Pitchfork that Loveless was a significant release, and we respects our elders so we held it in high esteem as well. Now Zoomers are carrying the torches for these artists. It's not that complicated.

How can you revive something that was never popular? Duster was pretty obscure for over a decade after they stopped putting out music. My dad loved slowcore and never knew them

Maybe the fact that Tiktok is a music centric social media helped. It's only natural that old classics ressurfaces, it was a matter of time. It was mostly from late-millenials and early-zoomers, btw: 2018-2019 Tiktok, and musical.ly before the merge, was full of 90's and 2000's bands songs.
Tiktok just made popular group within the niche more popular to people outside of it.
