Suede mogged the hell out of the other 3, in terms of both writing melodies, and lyrics. The fact Oasis got so much popular speaks a lot about how lowbrow and terrible taste most people have, no wonder mumble rap became the most popular music genre 20 years later... interesting that music critics praise Suede work much more than layman masses, with Uncut placing DMS at 76 on their list of 500 greatest albums, in 2023, while NME placed it at 31 on theirs, in 2013. On besteveralbums it barely makes it to the top 500, on RYM 2000k, not enough Suede fans :-(

True, Oasis survives as a nostalgia act, the other two could barely do even that, only Suede manages to still put out great albums to this day, hopefully one day they'll get the recognition they always deserved, by far the most underrated, and best, of the four.

I will relisten to Suede's first CD tonight because of the hype in this thread, I haven't listened in probably a decade or more and I remember not being impressed.

It was a good first attempt. There's something not right about it. You should probably try some of the more recent albums, they're better.

Suede first two are their only worthy releases, and their b-besides compilations which has a bunch of filler.
Blur wins by default for the consistency they had since their debut until Think tank

The consistent crap they've been putting out from the beginning ? Blur only has 3 good albums, Modern Life is Rubbish, 13, and Blur, the rest is a collection of boring filler. Also, DMS mogs MLIR + 13 combined, Coming Up + Suede mogs the rest of Blur discography

The objectively correct Britpop ranking:

BIBLICAL Oasis > Suede > Blur >>>>>>>>>>>>> Pulp

Blur is dogshit, both in their Kinks/XTC cover band era, and also in their Radiohead cover band "please take us seriously" era.
Pulp is on a completely level of shit though. At least Blur has Woo Hoo.
Anonymous No.128399700 [Report]
blur and suede both are shit honestly, mundane, boring, bland, soulless. the former a gimmicky "ooh cheerio I wuz only being ironic luv" snarky bunch of middle class wankers, whose biggest hit is a joke song, and the latter an obsolete bowie cover band, something you'd expect playing at a wedding of 2 fat goths and getting into an argument when asked to play a cure song

while oasis single handedly put rock back on the menu, and concluded it. no band can ever reach the genius of Definitely Maybe. it is how it is.

I like a lot of British 80s indie but I think I hate Britpop. Some of the most overrated bands in history gassed up by dickhead journalists and radio DJs. The only good stuff was Super Furry Animals and the first Oasis album. Maybe The La's if they count or were they too early?
