Picrel is what I consider good city planning, although to be perfect it should also have infrastructure that allows pedestrians to cross the road above or under ground so that neither pedestrians nor drivers would need to wait for green light at zebra crossings.

that's good example of a high throughput arterial that serves everyone (should have a tram in the middle tho) but most streets can't afford space wise to have 6 car lanes as well as bike lanes, so in a city you gotta take space from someone, and in america it's probably a car since they have most or all of the space. also america would never allow that road if it weren't a highway because it can't be accessed every 200 feet.

replacing the RARE and already-souless and corporate greenery that THEY allow us to have in cities with more lanes will solve the problem, this random OP said so!

I don't normally say kill yourself cause it kinda makes me feel bad, but...I definetely hope something negative happens to you in the near future. Maybe a broken arm, or someone beats you in the head with a cast iron pot, reset your cities skylines autism brain back to factory normal settings.

In cities only 2-3% people commute via bicycle, even in "enlightened" cities like San Francisco. Portland has 6%, highest of any major city and about 10x the national average. Why should they have anymore than 5% of the street space?

bike lanes should not exist. just hold drivers personally responsible for what their 6000 pound steel box does, with consequences the same as killing someone by any other means, and the safety problem takes care of itself organically

imagine if you could just shoot anyone you wanted any time you wanted, and then go "but they came outtanowhere!" and your insurance covers everything

the "bike lanes controversy" is a manufactured solution that only serves the interests of the automotive lobby

Do you think picrel isn't green enough? There's always some place for greenery in parks, forests, smaller spaces that don't beg for more parking lots and even along the streets as long as it doesn't endanger the traffic. Your emotional response proves this board belongs to Reddit.

I know a case when people wanted county authorities to cut down one tree because several drivers fell out of a twisty road and killed themselves on that one particular tree. T
At first the authorities didn't want to do it but they finally agreed when the tree killed entire family.

Nobody walk along a 6 lane road of speeding cars. I'm pretty sure that's loud enough to result in hearing damage.
>>2040959
Horse carriages were owned by the upper class. Now basically everybody can afford a car.
Working class people did walk, took the tram or got on horse drawn omnibuses.
That was how it was in the 19th century, It also created a problem, cities with the oldest layouts came from a time when people basically walked or did ride their horse.
Also bicycles and trams came before cars, long after the transition from feudalism to capitalism.

walking along a road like this is shit, you still have to walk past 7/11, a retirement home, burger king, some random commercial buildings you'll never step foot into, each and every building having a big parking lot, and cross 3 suburban side streets just to get to the grocery store, which you'll also have to walk through 600 feet of parking lot to reach the front doors.

My city has multiple bicycle and pedestrian paths running along and also IN THE MIDDLE of the freeways. My ears were raped and I never took them again.

I will say that in Madrid city center with the small streets like picrel it is pretty much fine because cars drive slowly and after the car passes people just walk in the street if they cant fit on the sidewalk. So it feels like streets have hybrid uses. Fully pedestrian streets feel better, but I dont have much complaint for these kinds of small city streets that people just share with cars. I went to Tokyo once and I remember it being similar. Although it tends to be better when there isnt parking all up and down the street. Underground garages are pretty GOATed.

hold pedestrians responsible for stepping in front of a car, 99% of roads can easily and safely be jaywalked, regardless of speed limit

All accidents come from pedestrians and bycyclists having default right of way regardless of anything

Different solution:
>All roads are 30' wide with no lane markings, signage or speed limit.
>Right of way as follows:
>Trains > pedestrians > cyclists > motor vehicles
>When motor vehicles meet at intersections, the one coming from your right has right of way
>Seatbelts are banned
>Airbags are replaced by a spike pointing at the driver's face
>If you're found at fault in an accident that killed someone, you are sentenced to death

This thread has only made me hate cyclists more

Yes, you are second class citizens. No one wants to be you. No one wants to spend more time on the road to accommodate you. Cycling only makes the roads worse and it is not the solution to anything. The solution is smaller cars and better zoning/planning.

You are worse than motorcycists. Enthusiasts for a crippled, useless, dangerous vehicle. The only advantage a bicycle has is directly endangering its user through attempts to cheat traffic (lane splitting, inappropriate parking, ignoring stoplights).
