>>2042773Aside from heritability and adoption studies, the real answer here for the MTA's dysfunction is several things at once.
1. No cut-and-cover. No one wants to disrupt traffic, business, etc., so you're left with 'the hard way' for expansions.
2. Everything's getting old. After bad decades in the '60s and '70s and even '80s some things got fixed, some things still deferred, and now we're back to bad times with COVID and post-COVID ridership down. Fare jumpers aren't helping.
3. Unions admittedly make everything expensive. When NYC was cheap, wages weren't sky high. Now to pay people enough to live local enough to work on it, you gotta pay them a ton. Nature of the beast. Unless we're all replaced with Jeets, we're stuck with it.
4. You can try and make it nice but we've got Fent crisis and homelessness and so on. We closed the toilets. Why bother making it 'nice' if it's just for Fent and homeless and now Turd Worlders to shit all over it? Yeah the NYPD could maybe make an example out of you but that's another problem.
5. Now we have post-COVID construction issues too. Good luck with your supply chains on literally everything. Oh, you ordered some shit? Yeah it's coming whenever it wants to, fuck your schedule. Yeah we said we'd have it and no we don't, what are you gonna do about it? The weakness of fragile supply chains.
6. The work's dangerous and gatekept by families. Try applying as a rando, see how you do.
