ass pain & abraision
Hey /n/, what strategies do you use to mitigate ass pain and skin health? I only experience deep muscular soreness on very long rides, but as I get older my skin is getting irritated more often. Painful red bumps crop up and ruin the ride. I hit them with neosporin and cover with a bandage, which works, but I want to prevent them in the first place. I always ride with a clean ass and clean undies, but now those padded cycling shorts are suddenly making more sense. I might even pick up some chamois cream even though the idea always seemed gross to me.
Anyway, how bout you? Is your ass chapped like mine? Tips from ass masters would be appreciated.

Just don't sit on your ass? The upright bike meme is cancerous.

my ass where it touches the saddle is basically as rough as knees and elbows, nothing I can do about that, but as long as I'm diligent with a clean bib shorts and chamois cream before the ride and taking them off immediately after and showering with a loofah and then moisturizing with first a buffer layer of cerave SA cream and applying a finish of 0.05% tretinoin gel blended with 20% azelaic acid and additional SA cream and an as-needed 50/50 blend of hydroquinone/mometasone fuorate to preemptively hit insect bites or other potential PIH sources (have to be careful with that one because it's strong shit), then be sure to not put on pants and work from my standing desk for the first 30 minutes before finishing getting dressed, I don't have issues and my legs/ass are as good as any woman (male) ass

It works, especially on longer rides if you apply a fuck ton of it to your groin and the side of your groin, and add a little to the chamois as well.

Bibs that fit well (so that the chamois stays fixed in place, with no seams that create pressure spots) and saddle that suits your posture well are the most important things. Anti-chafing cream ('chamois cream' is a bit of misnomer) won't magically fix things if you don't get those two right, but it does help protect your skin since some friction is inevitable no matter how perfect your setup is. Personally I find how long the ride is determines how useful chamois cream is: for 1-2 hours I don't really need it, 2-4 hours it's noticeably helpful, 4+ hours not having means I'll be in pain if I sit on a saddle the following day even if there aren't any particular sore bumps.

I use the cream very sparingly and find you don't really need to put it anywhere except the spots where your skin is going to be exposed to pressure from the saddle. Someone gifted me an 8oz tube of Chamois Butt'r 10 or so years ago and I still have 20-30% of it left today. This past Christmas I snagged an 8oz tube of their "Euro style" cooling version to try and I really like it.

Correct fit. Correct saddle, Correct pants, Correct embrlocation. Proper riding form that puts maximum weight on feet and minimum on ass. Go faster.

Why would one need padding on a mountain bike? The lift ride is not that long.

I unironically wear a pad if i do laps at the bikepark tho.
Lifting 6 times or more is more uncomfortable than a 6h ride on my roadbike without one.

After 18 months of keto, I broke my latest 72 hour fast with 8 oranges, 4 slices of toast, and coffee, then fasted again for another 24 hours, letting it brew. Broke that mini-fast with some nice dense chicken breast to push everything out at once. Been pissing acid out my ass all day and my asshole feels like someone shoved a red hot poker into it.
>why would you do this?
I don't know.

I bought a seat with inbuilt suspension and didn't have this issue anymore.

You snobbing the common practice for endurance riding speaks volume on why you have a sore ass skin. Get a proper bib, get a proper saddle from a recognized brand (selle italia, prologo etc). and maybe get your bike setup checked.

I can only ride Brooks because the leather adjusts for my wonky sitting bones.
It's hard to see but the left impring is about 8mm deeper than the right.
And thats still not enough. Need about 1.2cm

I rode a 1500 mile event in 10 days wearing bibs and using chamois cream as usual, no sores or chafing
I rode for 3 hours without either on a casual trip with some non-cycling friends, got horrific chafing
Yeah it makes a huge difference

Try doing your laundry with some gentle - ideally anti-allergic - liquid detergent, not with your regular washing powder. There are always some irritating residues after washing powder and rubbing them into the skin often causes local reaction.

btw, you may try pure glycerin first instead of this cream as it isn't nearly as gross; it's water soluble etc. It's the main working ingredient of all skin care products (aftershave among them) - also perfectly safe and non-allergic - and it lubricates the skin (thus reducing friction) as well as keeping proper moisture. You'd want about 40% to 50% glycerin solution in water; you should buy medical grade glycerin in some pharmacy or something and you may eyeball the solution - if you buy pure 100% glycerin and then add the same amount of water to it you will get a 50% solution. You don't need to be precise.

>just wear bib shorts
This.
Also if you don't want to go full fred I have better experience with bib undies + light sports shorts vs integrated bib shorts. While undies are free to perfectly fit body shape the integrated bib-shorts always get weirdly tensioned and pulled by outer shorts misplacing or rubbing them.

And avoid the thick ones - extra material is what presses, rubs and irritates. You need only enough to wick you dry and isolate skin from any outer fabric movement. I don't even know what the extra thick padding is for. Maybe for heavy persons who completely compress the thinner one.

I got serious butt cheek chaffing today riding my fixed gear bike 14 miles for the first time. I'm gonna have to stay inside all day tomorrow to get my asshole healed. It's very tender. Sucks bros

What did I do wrong? Are fixies harder on ur asshole compared to normal bikes?

Not sure why this happened. I've been riding my normal bike all year with no chaffing issues until today riding my new fixie.
