they can go there if they want, they just have to pay to be there due to how valuable the space is they are taking up. basic capitalism :)

hey man you can pay the toll and shut up, you can take the subway or commuter rail. i don't hear you complaining about having to pay on a turnpike. the demand far outweighs the supply, so there needs to be a price, simple as.

I have to admit I wasn't a big fan of congestion pricing as it just struck me as a handout to the super rich who live downtown

But then trump decided it was bad and my tribalism rearranged itself and now I support it because it makes rightoids seethe

It's a success because it was designed to raise revenue for MTA contractor money laundering. Traffic is still shit though.

True, that's why standard road width has corresponded precisely to the width of human body for 2000 years by now.

i guess there's no longer a need for those fuel and vehicle taxes then. they can get funds from those tolls in capitalism ;)

Those taxes help pay for a TINY fraction of the damage cars do to the environment and the health of residents living around car traffic.
The remainder is subsidized by everyone, regardless of how much, or if at all they drive a car.

those everyone also enjoy the economic benefits of cars that are infinitely greater than the minute environmental damage they cause. if you want capitalism then these taxes must go. remove all the forced fuel economy regulations that are pushed onto car manufacturers and cause purchase and maintenance costs of cars to skyrocket while you're at it.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels are the most profitable part of the system which is why the MTA rages when they shut the Verrazano down for the NYC Marathon.

https://nypost.com/2024/04/03/us-news/mta-wants-nyc-marathon-to-cough-up-750k-for-lost-tolls-during-race/

That's from ONE DAY for ONE BRIDGE. There's still 2 more tunnels and 4 more bridges.
