I currently have a very basic one that came with the bike (pic rel). It's at proper height so I get zero pressure on the perineum, but if the terrain doesn't require me to get up every couple of mins, I quickly get sore sit bones. I wanna do some touring (min 50 km daily) so that won't do. So, I measured them bones and set about finding a new one.

Thing is, I have zero experience with other saddles and have no clue what to look for. It seems like saddles under 50€ aren't worth looking at, but it also seems like I'll have to buy multiple either way until I find the right one. It baffles me that saddles go up to 300€ and there's never a way to try them out. Am I just supposed to waste money until I luck into one that fits? Is there at least a flowchart?

are you out of your mind? that's at least 2 hours of riding per day. you'd basically have to do an hour in the morning and then another hour in the afternoon!

the saddle that came with my bike is fine. It was a decent bike so its probably a 50-70 euro saddle, if you have a really shit saddle, a slightly less shit one would probably help
You also just have to ride more and it becomes comfortable. If you haven’t ridden much just keep riding and see if it gets comfier. You don’t need to spend hundreds on a saddle until you have tried these things

Riding more
A slightly better but not unreasonably expensive saddle
Adjusting everything so your bike position isn’t putting all the strain on your ass
Padded short

A shammy will do more for comfort than any saddle can.

Saddle fit is black magic. The best one for you can be $30 or $300. If it works it works and all you can do is not get a super narrow one if you’re on the wider side.

Small saddle heigth adjustments can make a big difference on longer rides, but won’t be immediately noticeable.
I start lower than I think is optimal and then move up in ~5mm increments until it feels too high and then go back.

when you're new, it doesn't matter if you have the perfect saddle, you get sore sit bones for the first few hundred miles.

Thanks, fellas.

I've ridden plenty so it's not that adjustment period. I went through a lot of experimentation with my position on the bike and I'm happy with it currently. I used to get both perineum and back pain and fixed that by adjusting saddle and handlebar height. It's really just the sit bones now so I think there's not much else to do than try a new saddle.

>Padded short
>A shammy
I did try a couple of chamois and I think they just make it worse for me. I wore them without anything under as one should, but the pillow always ended up too far forward, not really covering sit bones at all and would move around too much (tight in the thighs, loose in the crotch).

>if you have a really shit saddle, a slightly less shit one would probably help
>The best one for you can be $30 or $300
I figured as much, that's why I asked for a flowchart, basically which order to try them in. I'm considering starting with WTB Pure right now.

I did measure my sit bones, they're 115 mm, which is frustratingly borderline with a lot of manufacturers. I'm the middle position going by that chart anon posted.

Well obviously they have to be cock amd balls shaped.
I use a massive bbc dildo, sadly they dont sell them with the balls so i 3d printed them and covered them with some rubber.
Very comfy
Or you could rotate it 90 degrees up for starters.

Look for a saddle with 2 or more cushioning layers.

I can say that sometimes cheap saddles can surprise you, I have a $15 rockbros one I got on amazon that I use on my commuter and it’s fairly comfy
It wouldn’t hurt buying and trying cheap saddles to see if the shape or material is what you like, and then finding something nicer that maybe combines the attributes you like from the cheap ones
Or you may find your equivalent $15 dream saddle

Something about this shape really feels comfortable to me, it almost has a convex curve to it, real slight, and it’s the most comfy saddle I’ve used out of a dozen so far

It’s the 5.5” “racing” saddle, and it’s $19 now apparently
It’s probably not the most durable and I think conventionally it wouldn’t be the most comfortable, but it’s the right shape for me and just soft enough that it’s cushy while not being too soft that it becomes grippy

I would second a cheap rock bros or west bike saddle.
I have both and they work well for me.

Also worth noting that like 95% of the time it's just not adjusted correctly. Play with your seat angle, front to rear position, and height.
I was sore until I found the right setting. Now I'm good all day.

I prefer Cruisers for no other reason than simply because the seating position is not only more comfortable but it gives you more confidence with being able to see your surrounding are control your bike, otherwise I feel like I'm forced to sit in a position that feels like shit and makes me look like a twat

you'll have to shop around to get a saddle that suits your sit bone width and the particular geometry of your bike frame.
its like bike makers collectively forgot how to make bikes some time in the late 1970s.
and by the 1990s comfortable bike designs no longer exist, everything got given up for a bit more speed.
I recommend to try out some 1980s ATBs and 1960s gentlemans and touring bikes, I found them more comfortable than any modern bike.

Not everyone has the same butt

Find a used bike shop with a box of cheap saddles and buy ones with different shapes. Try them all and figure out what shape works for you. Then buy an expensive saddle with that shape

I ride the shit out of my bikes to the point where they are completely fucked, because I know I can get a new one whenever I want. For me bikes are like bitches, you don't preserve them for the next owner, you ruin them and toss them aside like any spent product.

I ride a 1k€ bike daily.
If you gave me 10 billion € tomorrow, I'd still keep riding the same bike, and when it breaks, I'll buy the same bike again. Cause it's just right.
Yeah, I could spend 30k to have someone recreate the entire bike with carbon frame and components. But then it would get stolen the next time I leave it out of sight. And even though I could afford to replace it, it would suck. It had nice, one-of-a-kind stickers on it.

It'll take ages to break in, then it'll be nice for a while, then it'll make you mad cause you can never get a proper bike fit since your saddle height isn't a fixed point.
It'll also stain and destroy your pants.
