Mentally ill people don't take their meds. There's literally nothing that could have been done to prevent this. It's why the government gave up on mental health in the 80s. It took roughly a million dollars per person to have a 5% rehabilitation rate. The only way they can function is if they have near constant supervision by another person. Because it's nearly impossible to rehabilitate them, we as a society have basically dehumanized them. Is the solution killing them or just throwing them in jail?
