Was at Bunnings this week. Big army truck near the tent. They sold me a sausage with onion to raise money for the veterans group. Tomato sauce and American mustard. Yum.
>>28442483To me, it looks like it's Porch buyers getting raped.
>>28442805No, I'm not even slightly jealous. I know your intention is to rile me up but it needs to be said that RX-7s are old cars now; even the FD is old enough to be a classic.
Over time, more and more will disappear from the roads, and it's the responsibility of owners to transition into being caretakers instead. Keeping them happy, keeping them healthy, keeping them alive, it requires a delicate touch, a lot of knowledge, and a lot of money; and doubly so with a rotary. Buying one before you own a home is irresponsible, not just to yourself, but to the car.
If you're not buying a classic to take care of it then I really don't think you could be considered an enthusiast at all.

>And so we come to the biggest surprise of all on this list: the Mazda MX-5 is the cheapest car to insure in Britain at the moment. If nothing else, this is a great excuse to go out and buy one, because the MX-5 is quite simply the most accessible and effective way of enjoying two-seat, wind-in-the hair motoring, whatever your budget. Older ones can be had for little more than a grand, while the latest examples are the best yet and easily one of the best new cars on sale. That they cost so little to insure is simply the icing on the cake.
>Average cost to insure: ยฃ250
>Price from: ยฃ1,500

>>28443827State Farm is who I have in North Alabama, they are the cheapest "big" insurance. Currently $540 every 6 months. One accident involving an old driver, I was not at fault and that was a few years ago. No tickets.

>>28444438Wouldn't know, I had progressive and GEICO before. For some reason 6 months are cheaper than 1 year time wise, so I just bounce to whomever gives the cheapest all option full coverage
>>28444432>>28444438I insure my NA miot for $125 leaf bucks. That's as primary vehicle in the summer season and theft/fire in the winte when its stored.

Washed, not waxed. Gonna push it into the garage to wax, so fucking humid my balls were sticking to my ankles within 5 minutes. Anyone know where to find some nice NB2 headlights? Also looking for 04-05 fogs and the harness plug adapter behind it.

Michelin pilot sport 5 are my new favorite tires. Toyos seemed to have squishy sidewalls and Yokohama at this size doesn't have the DD life after half tread is gone, it gets really greasy in the rain.
"Kink-free" hoses never work.
>>28445861Thanks Obama, let's upload again
>>28445864Agreed. But they do not come in 205/40-17. The new Michelin PS5S coming out also will not be in this size. I did my homework.
>>28445858Just restore yours and seal them after with clearcoat, I looked for reasonably priced NB1 headlights when I got mine and they were all $400 for used sets yellowed just like mine already were
>>28443807Fucking no. My '96 MX5 is currently ยฃ771 a year to insure (and that's with a member's club discount, mind), whereas my '73 MGB is ยฃ308, and the '50 V8 Pilot is ยฃ230. I even did a quote for the E30 I have sitting around, and that came out at ยฃ420. No idea where they're getting their figures from, because MX5's are certainly not the cheapest to insure, at least not for the young, anyway.

It's mounted on one bolt which it pivots on to set the gap. If it starts fine but runs poorly it's possible the cam and crank are out of time with each other which would require a timing belt job.

>>28446095Beats me. I do declare my mods, which I know will bump the price up a tad, but it might also be because I live in a shit area and am 29. That was the cheapest I could find at the time, and it was still about ยฃ150 cheaper than anything on comparison sites, too. I've just done a quick check on Go Compare now, and cheapest quote came back at ยฃ584, which would still be the most expensive of all my cars, but hopefully that's a sign that the price will drop when it comes time to renew or find another policy.
>>28446033yeah thatโs kinda why iโm asking, iโve only had my ND RF like 6 months and im a bit worried but iโve not had many close calls. only a few driving on 78 through the bronx on an 8 hour drive home.

>>28446409That's nuts. What is it for younger people? The 18 year old lad at work put in a quote for my E30, and cheapest he could find was ยฃ9,000. Age makes a HUGE difference here.
Can they make a sick ass rotary Miata?
>>28446553No, only a dogshit rotary Miata.
>>28446004Yes, South East is full of trucks with lift kits. There is a dealership specifically for buying lifted trucks. Half of the vehicles are SUVs or trucks (not crossover, SUV), and of those a shit ton are lifted.
Had enough after a third truck didn't look. I know it's a small car but distracted driving has gotten so much worse and now we have a massive influx of people moving in from DC/NY and Ohio area and they bring their shit driving with them. There is a clear line between seeing how "natives" drive and transplants.
I also have a 3rd brake flasher and full Flying Miata LED swap on all bulbs.
>>28446283I have a dark car and am lowered, if it isn't raining the top is down. I look over to a Ford Taurus today and my eye level is still below their beltline. I found a 1/4" x 6 foot whip from some off-road store, and a busted power antenna for the mount. Still screws apart like stock except instead of the collapsing mast, there is the bottom two sections that the whip fits into. I can remove everything just like you do for a stick antenna, and kept my working power antenna if I ever want to swap back.
Plus RC car look and all

>>28446687Have you tried moving to a civilized country?
>>28442687Mazda it's still releasing that halo car RX-9 right? Or at least something with a rotary? I wonder if it will be reliable this time
>>28447110It all depends on whether they can develop a rotary that can comply with modern emissions regs - with a power band. My money is on no, but they are still working on it. For now the prototypes are just to showcase new design languages.
>>28447148Oh I thought I had heard nearly a year ago that they could pash EU emissions with it (which I assume are stricter than NA regs) but thought that maybe to do so it just can't rev high possibly. I think they even stated it's a 2.0L, which is rather large for a rotary I guess. I know the new Skyactiv Z stuff is supposed to beat all the upcoming standards handedly. It'd be cool if they did a modular thing like BMW did with the B58/48 where they also base a 5 cylinder off their 3.3L inline 6.
A 5 cylinder in the next gen miata would be awesome if it could be like $33-37k
>>28446061I'll throw in a new one and see how it goes
>>28446111it keeps chooching so I doubt
>>28446409Mine is still high because I got my licence two years ago, so I'm expecting it to drop again.
>>28447164Find it unbelievable that Mazda would choose a 5-cylinder or a rotary for the next gen Mx-5 as it's always been the lightweight 4-cylinder Roadster. I'm thinking the Sky-X would be most likely, maybe paired with a mild hybrid for selected markets.

>>28448558how do you strip it?
Be honest with me, what's the point of the miata? Every owner i've ever talked to were like 1-3 year ownership. Never long term owners, and almost never see them more than 1000 mi from their home.

>>28448922Oh nice, I'm used to seeing the black steelies I suppose
>>28447353No I didn't mean rotary for the MX-5. They've just been developing one for a long time for something. I think they've dabbled with the idea of pairing it with a hybrid system since they take up so little room but idk. I doubt we'll see a 9k+ rpm rotary ever again but they've apparently put a lot of R&D time into it so it's probably going to show up in something even if it's a hybrid CX-5 lol
But I would love to see a 5 cylinder, MX-5. Very highly doubt it will happen though

>>28451410I imagine that kind of thing can happen anywhere you can drive in the rain regularly. Have you guys ever noticed how "hands-on" most Miata drivers are? Like common discussions of 2.5L Ford engines when a certain condition kills the OEM engine. Cleaning lifters, and doing engine work.
What am I missing? Is it because the Miata attracts a certain type of guy that does that sort of stuff? Or are they so dead simple to work on that even novices get comfortable quick?
>>28457934>>28457943It is exactly that. I just have reservations about dismantling the engine itself (I am retarded) so I just monitor oil levels and top up every now and then.
>>28457979>dead simple to work on that even novices get comfortable quick?Yes, also there is heaps of info online to help you through almost any repair.
>>28457998You will need specialist tools to do this repair. Valve spring compressor tool and a torque wrench for the cam retainer caps. Also fit new cam seals while you're in there.

>>28459434Sorry anon, I didn't mean to shit on your amazing deal of a car. You should be chuffed. It'll be a fun car.
>the only thing is that i dont love the colourYou may want to check a local vinyl wrap place if thats legal in england. The vinyl wrap can be changed any time you want, but unfortunately basically requires you to replace it every 5 years because how UV and weather destroys it. The wraps I've heard range between $2000 and $8000 but only shops can quote an accurate number.
Painting the car is definitely possible but every time you open the hood or even open the driver side door, you'll see that silver color because you didn't spend $10,000 painting the entire car.
Show your mates this image, its pricing in Central TX for some miata listings.
>>28459440its a crazy good deal for the mileage, its not normal. most NAs in the UK would be about ยฃ6k for a ~100k mileage but good condition example
i was the first person to look at this car, about 1 week after it was listed - I think because of my boomer-coded habit of calling people on the phone. when i was test driving we chatted and he said something insane like "yeah, if someone asks me more than 3 questions over text I just stop replying, I don't want any timewasters like that"

>>28459465>good old boomers and their funny waysOdd how universal boomers act. >>28459454One caveat with wraps is that there can't be any dents beforehand. The wrap will magnify them and make them even more obvious than before
>>28459539I think they use some quick adhering putty to smooth things out especially if you don't care about the paint you're wrapping.
>>28459434I wouldn't paint it. Silverstone is such a chill colour, coppers will not notice you. I'd either wrap it or give it a nice set of gold wheels to cheer it up. You could also do a tan soft-top to add some extra interest.

>>28460215They'd better not stop painting cars that color. Its amazing. Its such a good paint formulation they found, every car guy knows it and it even works on their plain commuter cars.
>>28459434Nice, looks pretty tidy. How old are you? Think I was paying about a grand for my insurance when I was 25-ish, so if you're younger than that, you've done very well.
>does anyone have any opinion on repaints? worth it?Entirely personal preference. I myself am not a fan of silver MX5's as they just look dull, especially with a black top and black interior which give it a full monochrome appearance (ergh), but whether or not it bothers you enough to justify the ยฃ3,000 to ยฃ4,000 that a decent respray costs is a question only you can answer. The other option would be a wrap, but even the nicest wrap I've seen is shite compared to average paint, so I wouldn't bother going that route unless you want something outlandish like chrome or gold (please no).
>>28460251>but even the nicest wrap I've seen is shite compared to average paintIf you wrap it hoping to compete with paint its going to look crap, but if you do something unusual like a matte green it stands out in such a way that looks alright but not obnoxious. I wonder if matte bri'ish racing green would look good.
I saw a matte royal blue on a cybertruck and thought it looked nice, the matte green one I saw was more of a pea soup that the owner thought was the color of US money, but it looked like ass.
>>28460241I wish they'd paint the Miata in the green the CX50 gets
>>28460326Chevy had a nice green color for several years, but confusingly made it like an $1800 option package that almost nobody went for because it was for something stupid that was required to even select the green color. Of course GM concluded consumers don't want green cars and discontinued it making a brownish green instead.
>>28460326Cx-50 is made in America, alongside the Rav4. No Japanese built Mazda's are available in that shade. I like the copper colour on the Chinese built Mazda EZ-6

>>28442861
>>28464665No point owning a fun car if you would rather have your cake than eat it. If you want a beater, treat your nice car like a beater. If it stays perfect, you have a beater with the unexpected bonus of being perfect. If it doesn't, then you have a normal beater. If you can't embrace that, then you might as well get rid of it.
>>28465226It's a slow car that feels fast, you feel like you're ripping and then see that you can't even keep up with the minivan in front of you. The power figure they state is a lie, it definitely doesnt make 181hp like 98% of the time that you're driving. Don't buy a new one, not only is it expensive, the insurance is crazy too. If you have long legs, you'll fit, if you have a long torso, you won't. Engine swaps are retarded, the car is already crazy small and you're guaranteed to get hit if you live in the US. Driving the car above 140km/hr already feels sketchy, giving it more power is just asking to die; a motorcycle is more visible than a miata.

After maybe 3 years without a wash, I have finally wiped the car down with a sponge dipped in dishsoapy water. I even used 2 buckets!
All I have learnt from this is that the guy I pay to clean my cars is worth every fuckin' penny.
>>28472454>I even used 2 buckets!Why? 2 buckets aren't necessary
>>28472478A "clean" bucket & a "dirty" bucket. I had 2 buckets, I figured I might as well use them. They car was caked in shit, and the first wipe immediately turned the dirty bucket's water brown. Grim. Just minimises the amount of grime you scratch over the car with your sponge or cloth.
>>28472486>Just minimises the amount of grime you scratch over the car with your sponge or cloth. As opposed to 3 years of neglect?

>>28472586The eternal boomer: cars aren't matchbox toys, go drive it, see it in the sun, keep it clean. You don't need to hermetically seal your car to preserve it as a time capsule to hopefully sell as a retirement fund. Let it get a few scratches, it shows you care about the car and actually drive it. When you just let it get caked in shit, its clear you don't even care what the car is.
>>28472594I just pressure wash mine but I don't touch the paint directly.
Yep. I am about $175 in on my car washing and I am all set now. Got a decent electric pressure washer, chem guys foam cannon, bunch of wash/wax/interior stuff, 2 buckets with grit guards, and 100 pack of microfiber cloths that strangely also came with a 12 pack microfiber towels.
Now I just need to find a time that isn't 100*f outside.
>>28472583The paint work is quite poor and pebble dashed from track use anyway so I'm not that worried about it being dirty, but if I can avoid making it worse for very little effort, such as using the second bucket that I already have next to me, then I don't see why I wouldn't use it.

>>28472697MX-5 SP has a full half a point less compression than this JDM BPZ3, not sure how much benefit I could get from a turbo setup given the lower boost I'd have to run. What's the worst that can happen to an early NA?
>>28472882>>28472860The problem with ethanol gas is simply that older rubber compounds are eaten away by it which can cause fuel leaks over time. All you need to do for E10 is replace any rubber in your fuel system with modern stuff that can handle ethanol (fuel hoses, injector o rings, the o rings in the quick disconnect fuel hose fittings, etc). Chances are all that is rotten due to age by now anyway on an NA.
