It's by far the most based modern car. A rally homologation special that didn't even need to be made, it exists purely for shits and giggles.
The GR Coperolla doesn't compare to the real thing btw.

do any of those rally shenanigans in your shitbox without ending up in a ditch or losing cornering speed or without a roll cage

not trying to hype it, but if you're gonna call out the gr yaris, talk about it's self destructing 3cyl or it's tendency to spin out cause of its short wheelbase, chassis rigidity and handling never were it's flaw

The GR Yaris is specifically not designed to be on rails, like all modern rally cars it's designed to be unstable and twitchy by performance cars standards.

Of all the Rally2 cars the GR Yaris is by far the least-modified. Even the power output between the stock and Rally 2 car is very similar. Generally it's beefed up and simplified compared to the road car. The most significant mechanical difference is in the suspension because the rules require a McPherson-like setup, so the bones had to go.
The stock car is perfectly capable of sliding around on asphalt like that:

In addition, Toyota has a few regional championships where the spec car is a near-as-can-be stock GR Yaris. That also explains why many of the facelift underwent quite a lot of little changes to things like the bumpers that only make sense in the context of amateur motorsport.

you just can't do your cool rally slides without good chassis rigidity, the car will roll over if you do that in a shitbox with decent power figures.

The unstableness you talk about is all at the tires; tires, suspension and axles play a role in that. The contrast is what makes them good at slides. hyperactive underbody parts with rigid upper body, this makes the drama limited to the wheels only and not get transferred up and upset most of the body. this helps the wheels to lose contact with the ground in minute degrees, all independently and that's what makes it easy to slide. This is also the reason why it's such a bad daily, you'll feel the ground at normal speeds.

by "twitchy" you mean tail happy then yes, awd needs help with cornering and rotating gracefully like a rwd shouldn't be expected here. If it wasn't twitchy it would just be VA sti, lazy and understeery at turns

I've gone way off the point from the ruby on rails remark but if you treat it like you treat your performance car on track, it will act like one but if you're gonna go hooligan on it, performance cars will let you know where and when and what and how exactly something happened, this thing just snaps past the threshold
