>>28451531 (OP)Join for a dumb little GTA Online (Enhanced ed.) rally event in the spirit of the old /ovg/ rallies done in rFactor. See the full route map on the Google Sheet and the Wiki. We'll probably run this on Sunday, so if you have a 3rd world internet connection get downloading if you wanna participate. Event takes about 25 mins to drive, but it'll probably take an hour and a half for us to complete as a group.

>>28451613>fathers dayFuck.
wonder why no racing games with a huge roster of cars ever tried to do something like topgear's cheap car challenges
>>28451780If only there was a way for you to vote for the day it's going to be held hmmmmmmmmmmmm
>>28451795Because it doesn't work in a video game. What made those challenges fun was the very real change of a car crapping out any moment (and they used to a lot in the earlier ones) and having funny problems. No sim does that and no sim could really do that it'd just be stupid RNG shit
>>28451720if you liked 4 you'd probably like 5. they are not very good games though, but I don't need to remind you.

>>28454304You're supposed to be playing it with the TDU Platinum mod that adds 800+ cars, HD textures, and a nice reshade adjusted to your personal preference. There's even a mod to smooth out some of the jaggier, "curved" roads of old. It looks just fine. If everyone here wasn't too busy simfagging I bet we could get some nice croozes going since the multiplayer is more functional than the newest game's is.

>>28455836>You're supposed to be playing it with the TDU Platinum modNo you're not, the original game is just fine
That mod is a bloated mess, the car rips are all from different sources so their quality is all over the place and clashes with original assets (shit texturework, no proper shading on materials etc.), there's no fucks given about car classes, balance or even progression, there's tons of questionable changes like the music and sounds, it basically shits over the original vision of the game.
>>28455836TDU1 is still ugly as sin with awful physics. it visually reminds me of dicking around in Daggerfall, where it's miles of untextured flat land with the occasional 2D tree sprite. the reason it got a pass is because it was THE first mainstream car MMO. THE first game where you didn't have to race, you could just cruise around in the world, and in fact the game was designed to encourage that. TDU2 was the exact same but with moderately better graphics but got raked over the coals because by 2011 console online gaming had evolved enough where that was no longer novel. and SC is just 2 but with again better graphics and some better physics, and it's being mocked as one of the worst driving games of all time even though when you measure it objectively it's better than the previous two. it's simply the fact that what worked in 2006 doesn't work in 2025. The people going back to play 1 now aren't doing it because it's fun, it's for nostalgia.

>>28455887>No you're not, the original game is just fine>it hasn't really aged well in my opinionPick one first, the original was always an option. Personally, I'd be willing to accept shitty Gran Turismo 4-tier car models just to have more variety, so I've no problem with having car mods that vary in quality. The original assets of the game are also jagged as hell, I can almost count the polygons on some of the original steering wheels so staring at some interior ripped out of Forza is an upgrade IMO.
The original game didn't really have progression either, spam the "170mph in Heavy Traffic" race in the south of the map with a C6 Corvette or Sagaris until you unlock the "180mph in Heavy Traffic" in the center of the map. Buy a 'cheap' Saleen S7 then you've figured out how to make $500k in 10 minutes, and all without mods.
>>28455890>TDU1 is still ugly as sin with awful physics.Hardcore mode in TDU1 felt fine. TDU2's physics were awful, on the other hand. Inb4 the shill accusations, but physics and car sounds in Solar Crown blow anything from Motorfest or any post-FH4 Horizon by a longshot, especially if we're talking anything off road. It's just that the game itself is still in a mostly-broken state as they scramble to attempt to make it "feel" like an actual TDU title, and there's a huge lack of content. Nostalgia is most of the reason I decided to even give the new game a shot in the first place anyway.
>>28455914shame about Solar Crown, the map is actually fun to drive in.
>>28455914>hardcore mode felt fineno it didn't. the cars still drive like bricks with no suspension and the instant you start to oversteer the car whips around 180ยฐ because the physics engine can't handle tyre slip. That was just acceptable to you because there was no alternative at the time.
none of these racing games ever get off road right. I have NEVER seen a game that wasn't some indie tech demo (BeamNG, Spintyres) get stuff like chassis flex and axle articulation right. it's always just the wheel levitating in the wheel well and moving up and down within an arbitrary 'travel' range that's a tiny fraction of what they can do in reality. It's acceptable in road cars on a track because they don't need a or have a foot of travel, but it looks silly when like in FH you have trophy trucks acting like they're bottoming out just from hitting a kerb.
>get recommended assetto corsa to play in the touge servers

>>28456036https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMC_V6_engine
you can make more power but at the expense of durability
a 6 cylinder is the least amount of cylinders you can have and still have powerstroke overlap, which is why big trucks generally don't use 4-cylinders, and because it's physically smaller than a v8 its block and crank are stiffer than both that and an i6. i6s are the cope engines that are only made because they are basically shit off a tractor and easy for retards to assemble and repair. v6s are genuinely advanced technology. they are the most optimal engine configuration.
>>28456042I6s have inherently balanced crankshafts which makes them infinitely scalable, which is why they're the default for heavy trucks.
>>28456218everything has an inherently balanced crankshaft you idiot
if they weren't balanced they couldn't rev over a couple hundred rpm
you're confusing yourself with the whole balance thing, the thing with v6s being that because the banks are in threes you can't have a mixed up firing order like 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 like you can with a v8, it has to fire in sequence:123456. the "imbalance" is merely that the two sides of the engine don't cancel out each others momentum perfectly with every single power stroke, not that the crankshaft is "imbalanced" or something retarded like that. there's nothing internally imbalanced about a v6's rotating assembly. it just means it rumbles like most people think a v8 is supposed to do.
>>28456280>>28456218oh wait what this was supposed to be a response to another thread. oh well can't delete it now rofl
>>28456280no they don't. most engines need some form of counterbalance weighting on the crankshaft.
>>28455982Id like a touge specific game with decent physics. AC modding is hit or miss, the initial d games are on rails, and the old txr drift games are outdated.
>>28456306that is inherent balance as in the balance comes from the spinning object being appropriately weighted

>>28458641>Of course it's a lap.no dude it's not a lap
that's called an outlap, it's a warmup. most sims don't even count that lap.
you're basically asking "i completely my morning calisthenics routine in a completely average, sensible time, it that bad?"
what i'm trying to get you to understand is that your lap time is completely irrelevant until you have the skill to improve it willingly and not just fart really hard for 14km and then ask someone else "was that good?" like idk retard, was it? you drove it. how the fuck would i know?
>Project Cars 2lol
lmao even
that game has a very fucked up tire model and you have a lot more grip than irl so i would consider whatever performance you get out of it to be entirely suspect. there is some bug where at certain slip angles you have effectively infinite grip and if you can figure out what that is you can just shit on irl laptimes with any car.
>>28458643What? I know it's old but I don't think there's anything wrong with it and my potato can run it. With my skill level, or lack thereof as it were, I don't see a reason to by a new game when the game I have is fine.
>>28458659pcars 2 is quite simply not very realistic despite its presentation, it's got a kind of arcadey feel but with lite sim elements, kind of like forza motorsport. while the cars are pretty accurate in terms of power and the tracks are decently accurate if you care about laptimes you really want rfactor2 or assetto corsa because you can drive absolutely perfect laser scanned tracks on a tire model that isn't so handholdingly optimistic, which will give you a much better idea of real life performance.
pcars2 is the opposite of iceracing
>>28458654>that's called an outlapI thought an outlap was out of the pitlane. This was from a standing start at the start/finish line at T13. The north loop doesn't have a pitlane open in PCars2. I'm a little miffed about that, but I don't feel like running the combined circuit.
Do you also think the first lap of a race doesn't count because it's a standing start?
Top Gear did a whole recurring bit with comparing lap times from a standing start around their circuit. Were those not laps? Were they not lap times?
>it's a warmupWell yeah. I thought it was a very good time for a warmup lap. At least compared to what I expected.
>sensible timeThanks, that's what I wanted to know.
>that game has a very fucked up tire model and you have a lot more grip than irl so i would consider whatever performance you get out of it to be entirely suspect. there is some bug where at certain slip angles you have effectively infinite grip and if you can figure out what that is you can just shit on irl laptimes with any car.Didn't know that. I don't think I'm nowhere near the skill level where I can consciously abuse certain slip angles though.
>like idk retard, was it?Sorry for trying to have fun in a game and wanting to talk about personal achievements, I guess.
>>28458672I'll consider getting Assetto Corsa if I see it on sale again.
>>28458682That's not what it feels like when I drive the Ford Escort RS1600 with the OEM setup. Or the '66 Mustang.
>>28458654What car is this? Ford Capri?
>>28458672AC1 is honestly easier to drive, I find its handling model to be pretty forgiving. But that is probably thanks to their ffb being extremely detailed, even if its a bit exaggerated. It just helps you drive better. My problem with pcars2 was everything just feeling off. It's definitely not trying to be an arcade game. One of my main issues with it is that everything felt vague to me in terms of ffb, and I had no idea what the car was doing. That might be why that one anon is comparing it to iracing, thanks to their asinine decision to only simulate forces felt through the steering rack. Not everyone's setup can accommodate a buttkicker, nor does everyone want to get one. I really wish iracing wasn't as popular as it was, because I hate driving in it.
>>28458692>Do you also think the first lap of a race doesn't count because it's a standing start?i mean for timing purposes, yes. especially in a race, having to deal with traffic. past performance is no guarantee of future results, or luck.
>>28458716Civetta Bolide, BeamNG
>>28458779AC is somewhat flawed and its accuracy entirely depends on who made the mod you are driving and what tire data they copy pasted. however it teaches a bit of caution and encourages you to not abuse the tires
rfactor and rf2 to me feel the most like real life with the exception that rf1 does not really handle when cars get up on two wheels very well but that is an edge case that most drivers will never encounter. beamng also feels very good but the tire model's concept of rubber interacting with pavement is wacky. REALLY fucking good offroad however
>>28458692Sorry for trying to have fun in a game and wanting to talk about personal achievements, I guess.

>your lap time is completely irrelevant until you have the skill to improve it willingly and not just fart really hard for 14km and then ask someone else "was that good?"until you have a lap where you go "damn that was good" there's no point in gaslighting yourself. imagine if you will, we are on the steps of a large staircase. you have taken one step, and gone "guys was this good?"
whether it was good enough or not is not for your peers to decide. only you can truly tell if that is a good enough lap or not. if it was good enough then pack it in go home you're done. if it was shit and needs improving then you go back out there and do it. surpass your limits.

I'm never going to be objectively great. Probably not even good. But maybe I can aspire to be decent? Just wanted to ask how far off from that I am.
>whether it was good enough or not is not for your peers to decideWhy not, really? Like you said, no point in gaslighting myself.

>>28458909>>until you have a lap where you go "damn that was good">Well that was my reaction.and your frame of reference for "good" is....???
you literally ran a better lap in one shot, so it couldn't have been a good lap.
>It's easy to gaslight oneself when when you're stuck inside your bubble, like I have been. It's healthy to burst that bubble occasionally. I'm never going to be objectively great. Probably not even good. But maybe I can aspire to be decent? Just wanted to ask how far off from that I am.there is no way of knowing. you have opened your mouth, spoken a single word, and are asking us to objectively judge the entirety of the novel you have yet to write based on your ability to pronounce the word "the". do you see now why asking if your laptime is "fast" or not is a problem?
>Why not, really? Like you said, no point in gaslighting myself.because it's your lap run by yourself for fun like the time is just totally irrelevant, unless you are interested in comparing yourself to others in which case you would never compare outlaps. you don't compare laps not performed under racing conditions because that's just completely pointless, and at the nurburgring all racing is done with a rolling start, so measuring a standing start is just irrelevant, a throwaway time. as you can already see you can run a better time than that without trying, so why waste anybody's time asking if its "good " or not?
like really, objectively no, it's shit. you did a slow lap, you're literally 15 seconds off your own pace. what do you want me to say?
>>28459103thats what this anon did thoughbeit, he did one outlap, one flying lap, and then comes here and goes "guys guys guys did id dooo gooood????". he gave up as soon as he failed to complete a lap and now wants validation.

>>28458323Here's the "hotlap start" single lap of not having any practice at all with a much slower Mustang on standard setup standard tires no practice just did it to compare this for you. This '15 Mustang has 435hp, your ZL1 has 650hp so you only getting to 8:16 with that is kinda slow. I don't have a better car to compare to in AC than this floaty soft fucker.
>>28459924>and your frame of reference for "good" is....???I don't really have a reasonable frame of reference. Which is why I asked. But anons got all pissy for some reason.
>he gave up as soon as he failed to complete a lapWho says I gave up? Do I have to live at the Nรผrburgring? Do I have to spend every second out on track? Can I not run some laps, post on the internet, have dinner, do something else, go to sleep? If I don't live and breath chasing perfection, is everything worthless?
>wants validationIs that so bad? Everyone being pissed at me for opening my mouth answers my original question though.
>like no faggot get back out thereI will, but I won't have anyone to share my progress with because you guys all clearly rather not hear it.
>>28459994Thanks for the effort. Hope you had fun doing that.
>>28459997>I don't really have a reasonable frame of reference. Which is why I asked.right and you don't even know enough to relate the answer to anything so you gain no knowledge by asking. you're not done. you assembled one step of the gundam kit and decided to ask if you're doing it right.
>But anons got all pissynobody is pissy here except you because you were chastised for asking an inane and pointless question. you are getting exactly the answer you wanted. it's really not my fault that you cannot see the forest for the trees.
>Who says I gave up? you did. you literally gave up after failing to complete your 2nd flying lap which would have potentially been your fastest
>Do I have to live at the Nรผrburgring?do you want to be fast?
>Everyone being pissed at menobody's pissed at you except you
>but I won't have anyone to share my progress with because you guys all clearly rather not hear it.anon a pedestrian outlap done with full fuel and fresh tires is not at all indicative of any kind of skill or pace and it's literally physically impossible for anyone to tell you anything about your driving just from that number alone. any seemingly genuine comment would just be a lie to make you feel better. i am the only one who is giving you the real deal here.
you are asking a question that you literally don't have the skills vocabulary to understand and i am telling you quite frankly and as nicely as possible to go back and practice until you do. i have done the 24 hours of the nurburgring 3 times. you have done 3 laps.
if you wanna give up and storm off in a huff because someone didn't clap and say "wow good job anon!!!!" then you do on and do that, but you are giving up.
>>28460004>>28459994This is also giving him the real deal by matching his time in a car 200 hp under kek
>>28460006yeah you did good too anon
it's better to concern yourself with fundamentals than jerk off over laptimes, that shit is for top 10 world record holders and comparing people who are milliseconds apart, not entire tens. if you're having trouble just getting what is basically a gt3 car around the track your lap time is literally meaningless because it will improve by massive leaps and bounds as you become used to the car
>>28460008So true. Until you start lapping even a track as long as the Nordschleife at least within half a second a lap consistently everything else is pure wank

Hey Bob I decompiled the function CheckNames and figured out what the "MR DULL" cheat does that you were asking about earlier. This is what your name is automatically changed to when you enter an empty player name. In the international release of the game it will also convert the palette to grayscale. The palette swap seems to have been disabled for the US release but the name change is still present.
There is also another cheat that was removed. It looks like during development you could enter "CLONES" as your name and it would allow any number of players to pick the same car in network multiplayer mode. This has been completely removed in both US and international released and doesn't even update the player name when entered.
You can also enter "PROCESS" and it looks like it detects differences in floating point math processing.
Goddamn rF2 feels so good.
The way losing traction feels is unmatched. What a joy.

3 in 1 remaster update for beamng just dropped
forgot trackmania doesn't have analog throttle
>>28464357As much as I dislike doing setups, you have to do them.
A lot of default setups for my car in ACC run a bit more rake than I would like. It makes the car more prone to on-throttle understeer at low speeds and more draggy.
The default setup for the Mustang GT3 at Catalunya makes it kill its FL tire, as well. Porsches are generally very unstable, you get the idea.

The general populace of LMU cannot handle the new tires at all and were spinning everywhere last week.

It's not that it's hard to drive or like driving on ice either, the cars still have a ton of grip. They're specifically targeting the unrealistic slide to go fast behavior of rF2 tires, but their solution is terrible and just instantly removes all grip.
