Sorry but just using a bigger battery pack isn't a technology leap. Also 800kms estimated is 400kms in the real world which is just embarrassing.

With the current capacities it's not about the range, but amount of time it takes to charge the battery. And as the speed chargers cost more than gas the whole situation gets ridiculous

Real world range is between 15-20% off wltp. So 800km (500mi) wltp should be 640-680km (400-420mi)
Then factor in the minimum and maximum soc points and that gives you 450-480km (280-300mi)

So an optimistic 500 mile range, realistically a 400 mile range and it'll take 8 hours to charge.

EVs really do make sense on paper for most people. You're simply not often driving 200 miles one way very often. You're certainly driving 400 miles in one go maybe once a year and I'd say that just isn't that common anymore. So the range issue is an odd one because consumers demand 400+ miles of range while they drive 40 miles on average daily. I guess that tracks for most consumers being fucking morons: buying a 1000lbft torque diesel pickup and the heaviest thing they haul 1000lbs.

No one said "you don't NEED more". I don't know you, you might actually drive that much every day. You might need more. I just think if you only drive 20 miles a day then freaking out because your car can only drive 300 miles is silly. Which is why I asked.

>I need dually diesel pickup even though 99% of my driving is unladen because I might need the extra utility once a year
>I need a car that can go 700 miles without stopping even though 99% of my driving is just back and forth to work because I might need the extra range once a year
Why is one of these statements different from the other two?
