Reposting from the tail end of the last thread. Bought my first bike a few days ago and I plan to start practicing with it tomorrow. 2008 Honda Rebel, 250cc. A few days off during work days allows a lot less traffic to contend with. All the gear squared away, and insurance soon to follow. Even scheduled a class.

Now all I have to do is not get myself killed or let someone else do the deed.

Any advice, exercises, encouragement to get a litre bike as soon as possible?

250 cruiser to a leaderbike is quite the jump compadre
maybe just take it slow, for now.

and remember to always wear your gear - it doesnt matter if its 30c out there, you'd rather ruin a jacket than your skin

grats brotha
if you live somewhere with a bunch of warehouses, go use their loading dock areas to practice get a feel for your bike
always wear gloves
if you want a sports litrebike, consider getting a sports styled smaller cc bike - controls and position are wildly different

The warehouse parking lot is a good idea, but as to the dirt bike I have few options. Additionally Ive been bicycling for years and its my main cardio workout. The litre bike was a joke, Ive been thinking to get somethibg more along tbe lines of a 90s cb750 or a SV650 eventually. Im not interested in racing, just riding and camping in just off the roadside nooks.

As for gear use discouraged by weather, I work in an non air conditioned factory in the south. If theres a breeze on me its better than a HV beekeeper suit at work.

Pretty much any bike you want has a learner's appropriate version. Most of the world has cucked license structures that don't let new riders start out on a "middleweight" or 600 or whatever so the manufacturers basically have to produce a full spectrum. Once you get the bike start planning little trips (even if you have to stay off the interstate), maybe do some light customization but don't fuck the resale, and a year will go by quick. Then you can move on to something else. I think I've usually kept a bike for 12-18 months before I wanna try something new.

I mentioned the Shadow 600 project bike my buddy inherited a couple threads back.
This is what hes working with.
I realized with the cut frame and fork mounted bars that someone was going for a bobber build and sent my buddy a couple pics of completed bikes. He got pretty exited and staged the parts to get an idea of what he had..

I'm a firm believer that as long as you can control your wrist with proper grip, leave your ego at the door, and know your limits whilst slowly building them incrementally will permit you to choose any bike you can flat foot.
Personally, if you have absolutely no experience try getting a cool naked bike instead of the sport bike.

Really gonna piss you off when you buy the rest from ace and go to install and realize the factory ones were smaller because of clearance issues in some areas and now half are one size and half are another and some of the originals look like shit now because you forgot they were different size and ground them up with the larger socket but didn't care because you were going to replace them all so then you spent 3 hours on nipponEbay trying to decipher moon runes and Google translate to find OEM parts...

That is absolutely some shit that would happen to me. The ones I bought are a 1/2 inch socket and then OEM are 12mm. I think that would make them the only fasteners on the bike that require an SAE tool. Hopefully after I heat cycle/tighten them a few more times they'll stay torqued or I need to just get an actual OEM replacement this week.

They were all faggots and I still haven't crashed.
Wouldn't recommend starting on a bike like that, but you can absolutely start on a 600 if you're mature about it with no ego.

This retard keeps posting the Gixxer brah video as if it's some proof that no face no case is bullshit, when literally had his face on camera because he took his helmet off, AND same thing with S1k rocket who got arrested recently. They had his face from Instagram lives.

Drink plenty of water the evening before, wear earplugs if you don't already, and maybe get a throttle boss if you don't have cruise control. The first time I tried to cover 300+ miles in a day that was the one thing I wasn't expecting, using way too much grip pressure on the throttle and just gripping the bars too tight in general tires you out needlessly. I've seen guys use those additional seat cushions before and they say they work, I haven't tried one yet.

The engine wouldn't "rev up" according to the auction. I assumed a blocked jet (I'm tearing apart the little Mikuni now) but could the extra oil prevent that as well?

I imagine the piston rings would be the first to go/blow if there was too little air(too much oil) in the crank case, right?

It's probably fine since it sounded okay idling before I started ripping into it, but I guess I need to learn how to rebuild a top end anyways if it's fucked.

Some of the best looking bikes ever devised, and it wouldnโ€™t even be difficult to make bikes that look right, hereโ€™s an example of a dressed up evo sportster
Coming from factory the exhausts would have to be thicker but besides that - which is easy to change after the fact - itโ€™s not like the car world where thereโ€™s a million regulations of roof height and car has to be able to go upside down and on and on
They donโ€™t do it because they SUCK

So I basically have a dirt bike track on my property. Pretty big, has a couple straights that are over a 1/4 mile long.
I have half a dozen telephone poles i use in a "trials" area but im thinking of building a proper course. Something like thise suspension tests for luxury cars.

I wonder what's easier to sell / which way will I lose less: a brand new bike with 200km on the odo, or the same new bike after its 1kkm service.

After today's ride my right thumb doesn't noticeably hurt, it seems breaking-in gradually diminishes the vibrations.
And my back doesn't hurt as much after the ride since I focused hard on consciously maintaining and changing posture, but it gets tiring quickly.
I can't tell whether a bar riser will fix the ergos enough to make it not suck, but now it sucks hard enough to make me think of selling the bike.

Based, i never liked the naked fairing sportbike cookiecutter cockpit.
975 makes 119whp and 80+ ft lb torque with filter and exhaust + tune.
Kreusi has a video on it, skip to 19 min.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vXTlj3wum60
The new harley engines are really good for power. I feel like they let the engineers go at em.

Nice bike, XR1200R with a revmax engine.
desu i wanted an indian, but those plasticky engines turned me off. Also no fuel sensor, and no gear indicator...

It's hot and humid and disgusting today. I'm just riding around with my gf doing absolutely nothing.
Been by cycle gear 3 times in the just 2 months and they've been out of balaclavas every time. They changed the design recently and they've been much better about not stretching out.
Guess I'll just order one online. Any other recommendations?

I need to get a new jacket and pants for dual sport and rain riding. At the moment I just have an Alpinestars leather jack and pants, which I use a raincoat and pants over the top when it's raining.
This is really bulky and a pain to put on.
I'm looking for a good set of jacket and pants that will work all year round (water resistant, maybe layers so it doesn't get too hot in summer 40ยฐC heat) and offers great protection.
