Look up "WRX scavenge pump" the FA WRXs don't have oil starvation issues but the L15s do spin bearings all the time especially once tuned

L15B7s and even the L15BAs with the weaker rods are generally fine if the tuner isn't a complete idiot and ramps up torque too quickly at low RPM. My FK7 hatch was tuned by DRob at IMW and its making 212whp/217wtq reliably.

Bearing size, tiny rod bolts, and weak head studs seems to be a common complaint. Actually the same issue with the older EJ motors. It's a motor built to a price point (ie it's perfect if you want 220hp crank AND 40mpg in a $30,000 car) but will break if you ask more out of it.

Well yea the factory parts are rather weak. I've seen Si L15B7s push 300/400+whp on a stock bottom end but those are the exception not the rule. More often than not if you're looking for 260-280whp it means head studs/new gasket/stronger connecting rods/new camshafts/turbo/injectors
