Need for Speed and FnF have largely died as inspiration for new car enthusiasts, aftermarket performance markets have become solidly established for every major sports car, genuine enthusiasts have become much more knowledgeable in general, and drifting is fucking dead. As a result, ricer shit has become unpopular and legit performance mods are the new hotness

I'm going to be a contrarian and call early 00s ricer culture fucking disgusting.
Pandem/rocket bunny widebody kits look much better than whatever the fuck pokemon looking alien bullshit we had back then.
I hated the 20" chrome wheels every tuner car had, I hated how the fenders back then poked like 12 inches over the wheels, I hated most everything gaudy about ricing back then.
In my opinion bodykits are much more subtle nowadays.

Everyone is obsessed with online clout now and only care about their car as long as it generates followers, likes, and engagement. Essentially, most car โ€œenthusiastsโ€ are attention starved children than people who actually like cars. Car meets and car people in general are far more hostile and passive aggressive than they used to be too.

It's gotten so retarded people will claim any car sub 500hp is slow, and that any car under 250hp is unusable for commuting thanks to online clout. People pretend they cant overtake or drive on the highway with 150hp. Meanwhile I see women in fiat 500 on the autobahn doing just fine at 180km/h and merging just fine.
The jdm scene has also never recovered from the 2000's crash of the Japanese economy, outside of a R35 GTR and the GR86 most jdm meet are literally the same cars as back in the 2000s.
Speaking of the economy, 'cheap' tuner sports cars actually arent more expensive post adjustment of inflation. It's just that the generation that grew up during or post 2008 crash is so broke and fucked they end up worse off than their parent's generation. Things didn't become more expensive, most people just became poorer. Those record wealth transfers they keep talking about and wealth inequality increases aren't just a meme. I also fear for the future generations who will be saddled with paying for that insane debt the boomer generation accrued in order to sustain their cushy life. They will really own nothing.

it's all bought now. nobody builds. tuning almost disappeared entirely. in today's world, power is about building stupid amounts of boost with total disregard for the health of the engine. nobody cares about NA power or handling anymore. most of the awesome cars released in the 90s were discontinued with no true successor. safety requirements made everything ugly and heavy. races are rarer now that the economy is broken and nobody can risk losing money. i could go on forever. it is totally different.

intellectual property and lobotomized consumers has made car fans instead of car enthusiasts, the amount of people interested in open source efi and making cvts that arent shit, diy body kits, kit cars, and shit that should be A LOT EASIER in the last decade has not manifested, go to a car meet and its boomers who brought out their tri5 chevy built ouf of magazine parts and driven 200 miles a year, or birds nest hair'ed brainlets gooning over 150hp fwd automatic coupes because it has a cool name

this
in nc there is a law where if your car is impounded for street racing it will be sold at auction in another state specifically to prevent you from buying it back

politiniggers have not increased enforcement but tightened punishments to such extreme levels they are borderline unconstitutional.
fun fact: speeding is not and cannot ever be an actual crime which is why they have to stack bullshit like reckless driving and public endangerment on it even if you were completely in control and nobody was actually in danger.

Nc here. That's what got me to stop street racing, or even just having fun on the road.

I drive my Trans Am all over the place, but I don't mess around for fear of having it crushed or sold.

Before any pussies cry about it, we street raced late at night on a road we blocked off. Nobody was at risk except us.
