The Low Rider ST is, in my opinion, a much better Switchback than the actual Switchback ever was. More performance, way less fucking ugly (admittedly the FXRT fairing is love or hate), and nobody was really taking the bags off of the Switchback.

It's an 06 so doesn't have that much power, probably less than 150 at the wheel these days.
I wouldn't be surprised if road 6s have more grip than sport tyres from 2006.
They are heavy though, so I'm keen to see how the proper sport tyre feels

No, they're different sizes. You can change chain size but you also need to change sprockets.
I went from 530 to 520 on my bike. Saved more than 800g of weight

Euro companies get their shit made in china, then finish it in-country
Chinks dont do that, they just sell the crates to middlemen in europe/NA, and the QA of those dealers is nowhere near the QA of actual big companies

Why am I such a passive little bitch br/o/s?
I was just out 2-tracking on the klx. Going up the trail I came across a couple of pickups coming down. I pulled off the trail to let them by and chatted for a minute with each rig. In the first pickup there was what looked like a couple (M&F). In the second there were three good looking women around my age. When I got to the bottom they were all chilling in the back of one of the rigs. They waved and instead of stopping to BS and maybe get a number I just fucking wave and rip away like a big ol' pussy.
Why am I like this?! I'll be alone forever.

I fucking love my DR. I love how caveman simple it is to keep running. But I think I probably have give up some ground clearance and lightness to get a twin cylinder engine and not get blown off a mixmaster by a semi

Are there any current production twins under 425ish lbs with moderate ground clearance and suspension you think a wrenchlet can keep running?

That's sick. Seen those but never irl.
I probably won't quit working on cars because I don't want to take the pay hit. I wish I got more motorcycle side work at home though. I probably need to be more involved in the local bike scene if I want to make that happen.

What are the most common repairs/maintenance that people bring their bikes in for?
Have you ever done a desmo service on a Ducati 999? I doubt I'll ever put the mileage on it to get to the second desmo service, but how bad is it? It looks like the whole bike has to come apart.
Also, Ducati says the timing belts need to be done every 2 years regardless of mileage. Is that just standard manufacturer interval stuff or is there a unique reason?

>What are the most common repairs/maintenance that people bring their bikes in for?

The most common repairs and maintenance that people bring their bikes in for are just general maintenance like oil changes, tires and brake flush. the uncommon ones are valve checks (like desmo) and timing belt changes on certain ducatis. Majority of these common services are usually done on adventure bikes like r1250gs that gets ridden all year round. The most common issue with bikes coming out of storage are usually bad fuel and dead fuel pump. Use those fuel stabilizer if you dont plan on touching your bike for longer than 4 months, they do help.

>Have you ever done a desmo service on a Ducati 999?

yes, desmo services is pretty simple. just gotta get the tank off and youll have access to the rear head. As i can recall, you need to remove the radiator to get access to the front head. Then youll be able to measure the closer/opener gaps. Im going to tell you right now, ive never come across a desmoservice where i never have change the shims :(

Changing the belts are easy as long as you have a way to lock the cams and the crank. We have the ducati tool to measure the belt tension but you can also download it on your phone. you just flick on the belt to give you the hz reading.

>>28466643
> bmw are pretty reliable, the r1250gs/a are like cockroaches, when i do a valve check on these, adjustment is almost never needed. i did a valve check on one running at 80k miles and it didnt need an adjustment. 1300gs engines are good, but im seeing alot of issues with its software. Dont get the 310. its made in streetshitting country.

Almost missed your question

Do your oil changes in shorter intervals, I wouldnt say half the interval since thats too excessive, but cutting the service interval by 25% will make a huge difference. I also get customers that comes in for oil changes and theyve only put 10km (yes 10km) in the last two years and i drain out brand new oil. Please dont do that, its still good, dont always follow the dates for service intervals, just use your judgement.

Ah haha, good to hear, random tidbit: I once dealt with a 310 that came in for valve check and the intake cam got chewed up. Somehow it still ran normally but was missing some power on hard throttle. I dont think ive heard anything about 450gs but we just received an R12GS this week and its the only bike i have not ridden yet.

>>28466675
Nothing of note, I dont think they get any issues that stood out to me, Id say theyre reliable enough that I usually only see them come in the shop for general maintenance. Wether its the pikes peak, rs, rally, maybe its because i dont get to test ride them long enough but they just all feel the same to me. I think the difference is just the options you get with it.

Oh, the supersport thats in my previous post, thats just me trying to put a new rear brake line in, it required me to tear half the motorcycle out to get to the abs pump. yikes.

heres a fun webm i just made

The answer is who the fuck knows. China mandates motorcycles being scrapped after 13 years for "safety" which means that nobody in China thinks about longevity of their motorcycles and cost cutting is excessively important as the chinese buyer sees them solely as expendable utilitarian vehicle. Of the two big Chinese manufacturers, CF and QJ motor both are claiming that their euro/us lines are better made but can anyone objectively conclude that to be the case? Not really.
They will run fine oob. Their resale value will drop faster than other brands and you're gambling on whether you'll be able to keep it running long term. It may be that they're indeed fine and you'll just be the early adopter of now-good chinese motorcycles, but there's no guarantee of it.

The MT07 BTFOs the SV any day of the week. And I say that while owning a SV650.
The MT's engine is smoother, it has better brakes and suspensions, it's easier to work on and cheaper to run. I'm only 5'10 and 150lbs with gear and the SV has no leg room and can barely accommodate my weight. The only thing the SV has is a bit more top end but that's about it.
It's not like I even like Yamaha, I've only ever owned Suzukis except for one Yamaha that was an actual piece of shit.

So I'm gonna say something maybe controversial,
If you can force or fit most bike engines (the super power ones) on most bikes,
Then is there a difference in bike types aside from appearance (maybe fuel efficiency?)

And To make things worse, I guess I'll ask you guys, what is "best" bike type?

You can already get whatever type of motorcycle you want with virtually whatever type of engine you want.
Rider triangle, weight, geometry, furniture (ie fairing layout) all make as much of a difference as engine, which, on the day to day, are mostly identical, accelerating you to the speed you need as fast as you need in almost all cases.

Yes. Aerodynamics, ergonomics, suspension type, weight(advantage in some situations disadvantage in others), possible lean angles and centre of weight change depending on the type of bike. Often also gearing and tuning but let's assume you're including that in your assumption.

Some of these things clash with each other. For instance maximising aerodynamics means you have to have sports bike seating position which isn't super comfortable. Having nice lean angle is great for obvious reasons but eventually you will just have to raise the centre of mass to improve it. We can go on.

Ducati (new Ducati) has the best reliability score out of just about any bike brand, Japanese bikes are becoming a QC nightmare rn, look at the zx6 engines, the Yamaha mt/r9 frames cracking under normal riding conditions, CP2 engines burning excessive oil in less than 1500 miles, Suzuki is the ONLY Japanese brand that is reliable as of now.. because they donโ€™t fuck with shit and stick to their roots. If it ainโ€™t broke donโ€™t fix it.

I saw that shit 2x in theaters. It's not a masterpiece of cinema, that scene or the movie as a whole. The movie isn't awful but it has the unfortunate distinction of forever living in the shadow of The Dark Knight. Shit, I'm not even into capeshit but somebody had a printed collection of The Long Halloween when I was on deployment and I still think The Dark Knight is better than that. Of all the things to endure from the Nolan trilogy, it's honestly puzzling this is what the chans latched onto. Maybe I'm just higher functioning than most of the other autists here I don't know.

I donโ€™t think it has to do with tracking people already put tiny trackers on their bikes for anti-theft. I mean the switch from
>solid engineering for a longer lifetime with maintenance and replacement of wear parts in mind
Vs
>cheap assembly and a disposable mindset
eg we make all our bottom line from boomers and larpers who buy brand new from the dealership, and trade in every few years. If thatโ€™s where profits are then they lose incentive to make bikes last longer. I think itโ€™s already rampant in cars. Plus all the emissions shell game shit.
Ugh weโ€™re all gonna be riding souped up escoots and paying a monthly subscription to go over 55mph

They are still pretty new, but have you seen any issues with the 2024+ F800GS/F900GS engines compared to the 1250GS as far as durability.

This brand and model works great for music and calls if you have a full face helmet. Pick an in stock model and I am sure it will be fine, loud enough. Bluetooth earbuds can have noise isolation but that is not hearing protection, make sure you wear proper ear protection earbuds.

At least in the city where I live, my job is pretty secure. Ive been with the company long enough to know that Ducati engineers are purposely making it hard to work on their bikes. There are shortcuts you can take but ducati service manuals are also pretty shitty too, one bike i forget what it was but in order to change the air filter, the service manual tells me to take the engine out of the frame. I rolled my eyes so hard after reading that. Its still less bullshit than working on cars. I do live on the rust belt so my experience with cars has always been awful due to the rusted bolts ive dealt with.

>>28466999
Well i think they have a hoses recall on the 310, every rubber hoses has to be replaced going from airbox to fuel to charcoal canister. I think its about an hour labour other than that, its pretty easy to work on it. Just be sure to check the oil level from time to time and keep in mind if theres big metal shavings on the magnetic oil drain plug. Valve check is a must on these when it hits the interval.

>>28467396
usually you need a trade diploma for it just like automotive. When you get into a brand dealership of your choice, usually they have their own online or in person class meeting during downtimes. BMW Motorrad and Ducati have such classes in the country as well.

>>28467931
no issues with the f800gs/f900gs engines, I think i dealt with one that was leaking coolant out of the inspection hole which is a manufacturer recall, had to replace the water pump at no expense to the customer.

I do a lot of shilling for the gsxr750, but that's only because it's extremely based and lacks of all the AIDS that you mentioned. I understand it's not exactly carburetor level of tech, but it has the same level of tech as a 2005 motorcycle and they're still selling them new like that.
Kind of an anamoly and I'm not sure how much longer it will last, but it's still going.
Single module ECU, basic instrument cluster, basic FI coding system for fault codes, zero rider aids. It's no more tech laden than my 2007 zx6r.

Well, i like working on my own cars but i hate working on other peoples car since they tend to treat them like appliances, they get pretty disgusting too. Working on motorcycles for a living is pretty fun and people generally take better care of them. Plus you get to ride all customer bikes and new bikes and trade ins. At this point just say a random bike sold in north america and i can confidently say i rode it before.

heres a pic of the cb1300 super bol dor I rented in japan. Took this at mt. hakone. I love this bike so much im tempted to import one here. cb400 super four is nice, but this is comfy as fuck.

This guy sucks. He uses the BDRs to farm views on his shitty videos. How the fuck people watch them I can't figure out. In the couple I've tried to watch he jumps from forward facing to rear facing camera literally every 5 seconds. (I've counted) If anyone is ever using youtube to get a feel for how a BDR will be, I recommend you avoid this guy's videos.

Just keep doing what you like, and eventually you'll find someone who likes what you like too.
It's valuable to have a wife, but a single man is valuable to the extent which he is capable. A man who has a relationship with the Father is more valuable than even that.
I bet you're a good rider, but sometimes you need a wingman to watch out for you, maybe a birds eye view? Have a blessed day.

Gonna need some sauce on that, because I have never heard of it, and most if not all people on the drip here drip drive some proper clapped out shitboxes. Motability, as I understand it, is for people who have some kind of disability/veterans allowance. My Brother's ex's dad has a Qashqai as part of that scheme.
