In the couple I've tried to watch he jumps from forward facing to rear facing camera literally every 5 seconds. Technically yes, but not really. I rode some 2018ish 883 a few years ago on a dealership test ride, don't remember much. Honestly do some research lol, at this point there isn't much to say about these bikes that hasn't already been said. I got a solid mount because I wanted to try out a V-Twin and I appreciate raw motorcycles. No abs, no traction control, no wheelie control, no rider modes, your ass doesn't even get fuel injection. You're lucky to get a rev limiter. These bikes are air-cooled, carbureted, straightforward machines. And unlike what fortnine said in his Harley video, maybe that was something that's different with big twins but this thing does not get smooth at speed. It shakes a lot at every rpm. It sharts oil out of the intake, it makes awful power for the displacement, and there's no underseat storage. It's definitely not for everyone. I recommend you take a solid mount for a test drive, and if you don't like what it is, then honestly you shouldn't get a sportster. Japanese bikes are absolutely built better, and good used metric cruisers are every bit as cheap as the solid mounts these days.

this is coming from a pro-shoom perspective, not a safety nanny perspective: you probably haven't developed good enough throttle control to enjoy riding the R1 yet. with 15 bhp you're gonna be wide open most times you're moving and snapping it shut most times you're slowing down, not developing the sense of how to use the throttle as an analog control. on an R1 you're gonna be cracking the throttle to avoid looping your ass for a long time.

you could learn it over time on the r1but it's going to be an unfun and slow process. try an intermediate step - 45 to 70 hosses like other anon says isn't a bad idea

There are plenty of faired sports bikes without the track ergos. If you get a SV650 you need to budget for suspension upgrades unless you way less than 130lbs. There's also the SV 650 S which has clip ons and higher footpegs but forget about this one if your inseem is taller than 30".

I was in the shop, drinking, and wondering if I could build a quad with IRS but use 2 swingarms.
Then I wondered if I could just use 2 bikes. Then I started thinking of basically building a "cradle", like a sidecar, that would mount between the 2 bikes. Marry the controls, make a left hand exhaust for drivers side bike and have some retarded artsy burning man build.
Could even make the cradle a clamp on and have the bikes split off and still be usable.

How often do you have to replace your chain or adjust tension? I'm at 4,000mi and only cleaned/lubed it, my slack spec is 30-40mm and I'm still at 35mm.

Actually I was very surprised I found a lot of the higher speed riding (40-50+mph) to feel almost identical to my FZ just because of the seating position and handlebars. At speed it doesn’t really feel like it handles any different but from stops and the handful of sharper corners we took it felt super precise, similar to my R3.
I think I had the most fun just turning it into and out of the parking lot at the beginning and end. Seems like it would be a blast on a super tight road, in a parking lot, or even the dirt lol
