In Europe we only take out loans to buy a house.

Modern compressors barely draw power but the factory compressor on my 1988 van takes so much power and makes so much noise that I'm pretty sure the engine and the AC system have to sit down and negotiate a trade deal on who gets the larger half of the horsepower every time I turn on the AC.
I would say it does some pretty good engine braking but the van is a rolling brick and the aerodynamics are so bad that I often have to use cruise control to maintain speed downhill, so...

When I had a Prius, using the AC would lose me over 10mpg. I'd get 53mpg on my combined highway/city commute. With AC on, it would drop to 41mpg regularly. Still pretty good, but as someone who made a game out of how far I could go in my Nihon hybrid, it hurt.

My 1976 Oldsmobile's ac compressor looked like a single cylinder Briggs hanging off the side of the engine.
When I got it the AC hadn't been used in about 8 years (tensioner pulley seized and snapped the belt). First time I drove with it on the car got 4mpg instead of the usual 16mpg. After that, it went back to normal and the AC didn't affect the economy

there is no reason to not put everything on credit. pay it off at the end of the month, collect your free points or 2 or 3% cash back, or whatever. everything you buy, you should not have to pay for for 30 days, in fact they should have to pay you for the priviledge of technically being allowed to charge you interest if you happened to not pay up. but you always will pay it off, because you put on autopay, and you will never fall for their stupid scam.
euros will never understand that money today is worth more than money tomorrow, they cannot fathom an existence wherein the market expands at a rate higher than inflation. largely, this is due to their shit economies, but also low caloric intake. they don't have the brain matter to process the information. sad!

No. Even when I was broke I had AC. I had a $400 car and a crap job.
>Scavenged an AC compressor from a trashpile windowshaker and used it as a vacuum pump
>bought a used set of manifold gauges off craigslist
>took the AC system apart and put new o-rings in it
>bought refrigerant and PAG oil at walmart and recharged the system
>had cold AC that still was working when I got rid of the car

In later project cars I've fabricated brackets to mount upgraded AC compressors when OE became scarce, made custom lines with parts purchased online to accommodate swaps. The only difficult thing about AC is dealing with the same shit that makes other parts of the car difficult to work on like having to remove half the interior to get to the evaporator, or dealing with corroded fittings.

I think it needs like 10 times the pressure, though, so maybe it's not the most practical choice for a mobile system.

Can someone help a retard out, I've not had ac in my car since i bought it. The compressor won't kick on, and bypassing the relay doesn't do anything. Forscan says the PCU is sending the signal but the compressor isn't getting it. Its also saying the static pressure isn't equalized, it's 45 low/90 high. Would this be caused by sitting for a long time? It hasn't been driven regularly for 4 years
