Am I the only one who thinks puffing up old and small wheel rims like this to make them fit on modern cars that need huge wheels looks ugly as fuck?

Doing this is insanely popular now

Am I the only one who thinks wheel faggotry is for, well, faggots? OEM wheels 99% of the time are of decent quality and usually look nice (because they were fucking designed together with the entire car), so the only reasons to buy aftermarket are non-standard tire sizes, radical brake upgrades and weight savings for the actual racing.

Lol.
No.
Just no.
OEM wheels are typically designed to be neutral- not aggressive or sporty or bland to cater to the average buyer.
Its a "one size fits none" mentality.
If you think the majority of wheels look good, congrats- youre an NPC.

My shitbox had like two dozens OEM wheel designs available for it, and that's not counting related shitboxes with the same bolt pattern and similar offset across different generations. Most of those wheels were optional, as in "not for the average buyer, but for those who want them specifically". The same can be said about my truck.

So? They fit the car, it's a typical mid-1990s blob (I'm not a graphical designer so I don't know the right words, sorry).
And judging by the catalogs, there was at least one other slightly different OEM design and the option to expose nuts. Were there any other Toyotas with similar wheel parameters to borrow from? I have a Lexus, I'm thinking about switching from 19" to 18", and I'm pretty sure I can choose between several different models in several generations even taking car and wheel weight into account.

For me its the aspirational wheel option I always wanted but could never afford. If i had to compare it to vidya it would be like unlocking the katana back when halo 3 was still a new game
There's a bunch of nerdy history about them, how they started as a motorsport wheel, how they're forged, can be built to any spec etc but thats all nerdy shit.

Never understood this mechanic either if that's pure cosmetics. People spend lots of money on cosmetics for their online games though, end up looking like shit anyway.
>There's a bunch of nerdy history about them, how they started as a motorsport wheel, how they're forged, can be built to any spec etc but thats all nerdy shit.
That's more interesting, please continue. Hope it's not marketing bullshit to jack up the price similar to the stories audiophiles tell each other trying to justify spending thousands on something that doesn't add any value.

I think it's cool that you can buy reproduction wheels that are in larger sizes.
But still look like the original.
Original 91-92 RS/Z28 wheels are 16x8 and have zero good tires left in 245/50R16.
These 17x9 repos allow you to use a 275/40r17 that have a few good 320tw tires available.

Work wheels was founded in '77. They started making wheels for motorsports in the 80s. The Meister line launched in 1995.
Supposedly the reason the s1s dont come with center caps is they were originally intended to be a center locking motorsport wheel and built as such, but after demand for a street version, they left the center bare as an omage to the motorsport wheel. The barrels and lips are forged alu and I believe the faces are flow formed aluminum. They're pretty light for their size.
The founders meme philosophy was "If you work hard, anything can be achieved"
," so they're literally intended to be an aspirational purchase. They've made other wheels for motorsports and there are better cost options than the s1, though you could spec them wide enough to fit pretty much any race car. Personally they're just my favorite looking wheel.

Wider variation in specifications than you can build in a single piece wheel. They're also modular so yes, you can replace a lip or barrel for less than a single piece wheel would cost, or build them to any spec you want.
Anonymous No.28477441 [Report] >>28477462
>>28477418
In this specific case the wheel is a chopped up oem wheel that has been converted to 3 piece to fit the specs of another car. Usually you're going up in diameter and width if you're doing a conversation like this.

Whoa, a philosophy coming from the wheels. But ruined by the stancefag ricer pic attached.
Honestly, they look awful even without that, the central (darker) part for some unknown reason protrudes way too much (the offset is not that positive), and the shelf (if that's the correct term) is too deep and have not one, but two steps. It's like someone got the default 5-spoke design and made it intentionally superfluous while lacking any idea of style.
Wanting to buy them for 12 years but not buying doesn't look healthy.

An "aspirational purchase" sounds like something some gay life coach or something else equally retarded would say. Also sounds like an incredibly retarded way to justify a purchase like that, especially since those wheels seem to have some gay backstory/lore and are this expensive only because of that.

I think most aftermarket wheels are garbage and I hate the oversized wheel trend, it should die like giant watches have. I also hate most OEM wheels though, they're either amorphous bulky blobs, or over-styled messes with too many angles and contrasting finishes etc. If a wheel looks like something you'd actually see on a GT3 or WRC car I probably like it, otherwise I probably don't, and I generally go with whatever the smallest diameter that'll clear the brakes etc. and has good tire availability is.
