Basically an engineer explained how GM aggressively pushes engineers to make things cheaper and worse
They do the math of figure out if a class action lawsuit or recalls would still be cheaper than making a proper part.
It's nothing new GM's been doing that since the 1980s.

Yeah is that surprising to anyone? If you want something built for generations then go buy a rolls/Bentley partnership era car

Yes, every cuntpany has figgered out that it's cheaper to lose a couple lawsuits here and there vs doing it right from the get-go.

Ford does this too. Just look at their record-setting recalls recently.

For 2026 Ford literally removed the standard front floormats from all Mustangs, now they make you pay for them as an option. They removed all kinds of other things too, like Premium trims no longer include leather seats, or the door lights, etc.

It's becoming more and more ridiculous of a money grab, and their quality is getting worse and worse.

Old cars are gone and new cars are all trash.

WTF is a young car enthusiast supposed to do? There is no winning, this hobby is dead. China will prevail and we will all be braindead blobs watching iPad screens being shuttled around like Wall-E

You small engine maxx. Be it a gy6, Grom, cg250, whatever. Jews don't want you having anything so you have to find something in protest. Small engines make great hobby toys.

Toyota did the same as american companies when it came to the Corolla and corona in the late 60s and early 70s. They wouldn't fix their fuel system from combusting on impact in a similar manner to the pinto which also wouldn't get fixed unless the lawsuit costs were higher than the cost of a better system or fixing them.
Unfortunately this is common practice of every operation within the US and japan. Honda has a similar situation only 8 years ago with their brake assist systems.

bro that's literally what made them competetive with usdm in the first place you motherfucking ape, look at the shit they were shoveling at us in the 1968-1983, most of it was fucking complete shitboxes that rotted because their metal is garbage and their rust prevention is non existant.
they had a few good models but they were usually stripper models of cars they didn't export.

It's not really rental-spec theory, it's disposa-trash theory

Everything is made to be "upgraded" constantly every year or three. Phones, laptops, sweatshop clothes, etc. Cars are no different, especially now that they're basically consumer electronics with all their iPad screens and EV bullshit.

The future is being a slave to monthly payments and paying $1,000+ a month to lease a slow egg EV with augmented reality screens constantly playing ads in your face (because you didn't upgrade to the ad-free Luxxe tier) and will catch on fire the moment the warranty expires at 20,000 miles

Time to upgrade to the next GM iCar 16 ProMax Xtreme Edition!

Figure out a way to write a law so that a serious enough issue/recall results in something like
>mandatory 10% of market cap penalty paid to victims, valid over the entire lifetime of every affected vehicle sold (so if you are affected 20 years later you are still eligible)
>Automatic forced buyback by the mfg if the customer desires for 100% of the purchase price including any interest paid to date (maybe will also help deter today's full retard pricing and dealer markup rape)
>Codify enshitifcation and excessive planned obsolescence (a wheel bearing not made to last 1.5 million miles is fine, one made to last the warranty period +1 mile is not) as fraud, then send all bean counters and managers involved to jail for fraud (and up to negligent homicide, if bad enough) if with the number of counts being the number of affected vehicles sold
