Nissan Leaf in 2013

>An EV with the range of 100-130km, batteries deterioated quickly and charging was exceptionally slow. Motor capable of 110 Hp. New price of 40k USD

Nissan Leaf in 2026

>An EV with the claimed range of maximum 600km, at worst conditions 330km, batteries actively cooled and likely to last. Motor capable of 215 Hp. Can charge 10-80% in 30 minutes. Rumored price of 40k USD. Has all the smart gadgets built in you could ever want.

Do people not realize how insane this is? And why electric-driven technology is so much more exciting than combustion engines? In a span of just over 10 years, the technology has been completely transformed, going from being glorified electric bikes to complete cars that outmatch comparable ICE cars in numerous key areas.

ridiculous
as long as the trad mfgs try to gatekeep hp like this, they will continue to be shunned
tesla will happily sell you a 500+hp car for 50k and a 1000hp car for 100k. and the least powerful car they sell is 300hp and rwd at that.

>Isn't Tesla hp figures a geniune black magic sort of deal impossible to replicate?
no? why would they be?
afaik tesla still has a pretty sizeable advantage in efficiency, as in miles/kWhr. not as much as they used to have, but its still there. the best non-teslas manage around 3.5 miles/kWhr, which the 3 and the Y manage 4. that doesn't sound like much, but it is.

>And while 200 to 500 hp may sound like a massive gap, will most every day drivers even know the difference?
wtf? yes, ofc they will
dude, 200 to 300 is already a pretty massive difference. its 50% more (or 33% less)
200 to 500 is 2.5x increase. its YUGE

I'd say that has cleaner lines than many other modern cuckovers. That's not a very high standard. And those wheels do look pretty stupid.
Is the Renault-Nissan EV platform any good? Some of their older cars are notorious for electrical faults and not passing their first mandatory inspection because the steering and/or suspension components wear out in 4 years.

Anyone can make fast EVs, look at Rivian, Lucid, Porsche, Rimac. The difference is every other automaker still has geriatric old cars that they have to protect. How do you sell someone a $125k GTR when a $40k Leaf is faster.

nta but evs are just not exciting. they all feel the same (and what they feel like is not *bad*, it just gets boring) and they sound like nothing (unless they have fake noises, which sound fake and gay)
im not anti-ev by any means, and ill recommend a tesla to anyone and everyone who can charge at home and doesn't need to tow regularly, but i also acknowledge their boringness. evs are just not fun. they're VERY good at being transportation appliances, but not at getting your dick hard. if you want the latter, buy a miata, or a lotus, or a m3, or a porsche, or a ferrari, etc etc (with the obvious caveat that modern ones kinda suck so for many of those you wanna go a generation or several back).

a plaid (s or x, makes little diff) on chill mode, without cheetah stance, without preheating batteries etc, will out-accelerate anything up to and including a turbo s.
and the turbo s will only keep up (not win, just stay close) if its in full race mode + launch control. if it was in comfort mode, which is what you normally drive in, and just starting normally without launch, it wouldn't even be close.

and ofc, absolutely NOTHING, not even the chiron pursport, or a demon 170, or even a panigale v4 will keep up with the sapphire. the only things faster than that are f1 cars (probably, not sure if its been tested) and straight up drag cars.

Doesn't go vroom and feel like it's straining, so I can't get excited about it. Marketing execs hear this and tell the engineers to hide a speaker in there somewhere that makes car noises, instead of looking into electric motors that make some cool intense electric whir when doing highway speeds. For the entirety of human history, work has required exertion, and so exertion has become synonymous with power and force. Now these gay little electric motors are silently setting track records around the world and these electric fanboys still don't understand why nobody cares. Make it go electric vroom.

You say this as it most people who buy BMWs aren't buying base model X3s and X5s. Most people who buy Teslas buy slow base model crossovers, therefore the Model 3 Performance isn't fast. Most people who buy BMWs buy base model crossovers, therefore the M3 isn't fast.

Traditionally you would buy the SUPER SPORT PACKAGE or whatever its called, to get the comfiest interior setup. With the added benefit that the engine wasn't that bad for overtaking.
Tesla isn't doing that, but it still offers a setup with a worse speaker setup, and traditional car buyers are used to splurge to get that comfy interior and whatnot

Also with that much horsepower on the base model, there isn't any real point in going beyond whatever their 4LR model is called for that segment.

They're limited to 160. That's why you pick 80-180, because you know the M3 CS with the M Drivers package can do 180. Even though without it it's limited to 155. You know that every other metric of acceleration, 0-60, quarter mile, 60-120, 120-160, the BMW is losing every time. So you fixate on this 180 number because if that's where you put the goalposts, you can't lose. Which is sad considering you're comparing a $150k car (which you don't and will never own) to a $50k car

There wasn't even a single SUV doing that 30 years ago let alone a suburban. The quickest accelerating SUV from the 90s was the GMC Typhoon at 5.3 seconds. It held its record from 1992 all the way until 2006 when Jeep released the Grand Cherokee SRT8.
But by today's standards 4.8s really isn't exceptionally quick for a midsize crossover, that's true. A lot of electric and and turbo AWD ones will do that.

Anything is "possible". People were running 10s back in the 60s with heavily modified cars. Doesn't that mean a 10 second quarter mile in a production car isn't fast? The fact remains that a sub 5s 0-60 is still relatively quick by modern SUV standards. It's faster than the vast majority of new non-electric cars.

>Every time you buy a used EV you're taking a gamble on having to replace the $20k+ battery.
People who get quoted those prices went to a stealership who wants them to fuck off the premises. Actual prices are lower.
Ex: evshop(dot)eu/en/battery-pack/1514-52-kwh-renault-zoe-battery-pack(dot)html
Less than 5000 euros.
Yes, it's a scrapyard job (probably totalled car), but it's still fresh, since that battery size was only produced between 2020 and 2024.
That particular battery is likely going to end up at Dala's Electric Auto Repair and Finnish Swearwords.

>Are you going to put a new pack into a EV that's lost 1/2 or more of it's value?
Value is meaningless, unless you buy new every 4 years (in which case you're a sucker). An electric car has less mechanical shit to break down: no oil system is a big one (engine lubrication is one of the most fragile bits in a car), fuel pump is another one, cooling is yet another one (ICE cooling systems are much more stressed than EV ones, due to higher temperatures). There are simply fewer points of cascade failures (fix one thing, another one breaks; how many people can claim that never happened to their old jalopy).

>Would you put a new $200 battery into a 10 year old laptop?
If that laptop was a 2015 Alienware that cost $3000 when new, and I got it for a pittance, bet.

Let me give you a RL example
>The Willys L134 (nicknamed Go Devil) is a straight-4 flathead automobile engine that was made famous in the Willys MB and Ford GPW Jeep produced during World War II. It powered nearly all the Jeep vehicles built for the U.S. and Allies.[1] It was later used in a variety of civilian Jeep vehicles.
This was later replaced by the F4-134, which is 2,2l 4cyl And the F4-134 was produced until the 1970s.

The unique distinction for the US market is that you can buy a truck to pull a small freight train.
But that is something that did not happen until big enough trucks existed.

Nah, I have an older Renlol Zoe, the coolant tank has a bog-standard cap on it, and you top it up if it drops too low (though, barring coolant hose leak, you only need to do it once every several years). Gearbox oil change is recommended to be performed every 30k km (about 18.5k miles). It's a very thick goo, 75W-80.

What filter? There's no filter anywhere. It's a just small trough which holds a bit under a quart of goo for the reduction gearing/diff.

Lotsa horse powers means lotsa insurance costs. 150-200 hp is ideal for a daily.

I would agree with that, it it worked like that.

ON a ICE the cylinder volume is the only factor, after measuring effectivity per liter of fuel. You get a static output defined by volume of fuel injected and BOOMED.
On a BEV I can get 1HP then 2HP, and then 100HP and t hen 600HP when you floor it past liftoff.
For now a lot of BEV will instead have high premium due too wide tires, old men buying sports car and driving into buildings in the parking lot, and a very questionable backlog of parts not sold at market price

Hey, EV drivers, guess what?
YOU are fucking up the environment.

>The solution isnโ€™t to ramp NOโ‚“ back upโ€”these pollutants pose serious health risks. Instead, scientists urge a dual approach: continue cutting harmful emissions while tackling methane sources directlyโ€”from agriculture to landfills. Only by balancing reductions in both nitrogen oxides and greenhouse gases can we hope to curb the unexpected side effects of cleaner car emissions and keep our climate goals on track.

Every agent I've asked has mentioned electric cars are placed in a separate bin, primarily due to shitslas being nightmares to repair in case of accidents. And also the fires.

>rear
Rear is the same between models.

There is a point on the battery pouch cell recall on the LG cells, but that is as far as it goes.
So let me repeat myself:
1. Old men buying sports cars, and then getting pedal panic while 0-100 in 3 seconds is enough to be inside the building
2. Lack of part catalogue backlog, meaning OEM can charge whatever for a new mint part from Mexico or China per crate
3. SUV tires.....
