No, they tried that and they were all incredible failures. They haven't sold any EV G-Wagens in the US at all, and the "EQ" chassis sedans and SUVs sold so horribly that they cancelled the next generation models so they can go back to their mainline cars with actual engines.
One by one, every legacy manufacturer is starting to realize what happens when they try to go "full EV". People that want EVs typically go to special snowflake brands like Tesla, Lucid and Rivian, Kia/Hyundai if you're poor, not to Mercedes-AMG.

im just saying, if im gonna buy an amg, it had better be a fucking vee ayte. preferably a naturally aspirated one, but supercharged will do as well. v12 would be nice too, ofc, but i very much doubt we're ever getting one of those from "mainstream" brands ever again.
i see ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHATSOEVER to ever buy a 6cyl (let alone a 4cyl) amg when you can easily get 8cyl c63s and e63s in the used market for less.

the c-series CAN have a 2liter i4 as the entry level engine option. and it should have a 6cyl for its midrange engine option. and a fucking v8 for the hot c64 trim.

Good. When I think of “AMG” the last thing I think of is a 4banger.

AMG is just a trim level now. E53 has a hybrid and fake sounds. Not expecting much from the upcoming E63 let alone the C-class.
