Dear /dbt/, crazy day on the R6 today
Battery died on motorcycle while at gas station
Stranded for 3 hours
Friend drives 40 minutes to my house to get battery charger thing for my bike, I happen to say to grab tools too
We sit outside gas station for like 40 minutes waiting for battery to charge with no results
Random car pulls up and girl asks if the bike is mine and where I got it, I think maybe its stolen or something
She explains she's seen the guy that owned the bike, no its not stolen just sold
We talk about the bike, battery obvious super dead, she works at auto store and says to hurry it closes in 5 minutes across town and say her name to get 20% off
She says she's going to wait there and text someone that knows the guy that owned it and he would love to see the bike again
We go quick buy battery, return, there's like 5 people on super fucking nice suped up super sports and shit with underglow and stuff hanging around
We chat and they are super stoked to see the bike again with a good person (me)
More random people pull up behind the gas station because I guess seeing someone wrenching on a super sport and a bunch of other people with super sports is super cool and "damn i got to see what's up"
Like 10 people all hanging out chatting and helping work on my bike to take it apart and swap the battery
Bike starts RIGHT up and everyone cheers and hell yeahs
Got invited to a bike meet with tons of people and can meet the previous owner next week
What a crazy fucking day
Enjoy picture of one of the busas for reading

>>28492117I've tried out all sorts of bikes. For the kind of riding I do, there's no point in getting anything but road bikes. I kind of want a croozer too, preferably an M1800R or similar, but that's a few years off if it happens at all. I wouldn't mind the CB / CBF having about twice the power, but I won't replace them before they die so I'll probably never get something like that. Would these be a good pair of boots? Originally I was looking at the Alpinestars SMX-6 V3 due to how cool they looked but apparently the Sidi's I'm looking at are more protective.

>>28492339>I thought they would be faster than me on, they aren't at all faster.iktf
A while ago I couldn't be arsed to deal with MOT myself so I thought I'd just give the bike to the shop, they look at it, fix what needs fixin' and handle it all ezpz and I'll be done with 2 bikes in 3 days
Big mistake
First bike took an extra day because they were too retarded to look up the type homologation for the wider handlebar on the CB, which fucked up my entire schedule and pushed the CBF back by a week. Then the MOT guy said the steering head bearing needed to be replaced (he wasn't wrong), and they took 4 fucking weeks to get around to it.
Fuck shops
I need to get wrenching buddies again
>>28492338what 2/2/2 boot would you recommend instead?
Guys I just got my bike license. I really want a sport tourer, but every one of them is like 1000cc minimum and weighs 700lbs, but I really want something with a good seating position and an engine that doesn't need the piss rev'd out of it to go anywhere. The only sportbike I've really considered would be an sv650 because of the substantial aftermarket and the vtwin in it, but I don't know how ergonomic it'd really be seeing how its a popular track bike. I've narrowed it down to these other bikes as well. Anybody have any good suggestions? I don't mind a little heavier of a bike, maybe within the 500lb range, but I don't need 150hp on my first bike, cause I know I'll get curious on the interstate at some point. I do most of my riding on the highway and want something that'll be nice for longer stretches. I'm also trying to stay under $5k. I'd get a naked bike but I want something with better wind protection, so that gives me a lot less choices.
>>28492347I'm 2 months+ in man.

>No gore-tex just get the brand's own water repellent tech, it's all the fucking same and you won't pay a premium for the gore-tex sticker>If you want longevity sewn on soles, you can get a new pair of soles at any cobbler when they wear out>if you want maximum protection at the cost of some walking comfort, get boots that go up to your shin with reinforcement>Maximum longevity leather on the outside but with the caveat that you will have to take care of leather Things to bear in mind, protection and comfort are usually on the opposite sides of the boot scale, because the maximum protection means it will restrict your movement a lot to prevent fractures and dislocated ankles, if you've ever had to walk in enduro boots those feel like walking with boots made from wood.
If you're okay with buying new boots when your synthetics starts to dry and crack or when your sole is worn, don't pay ~300 bucks for something you can't repair, go for something cheaper if it's gonna be discarded in 6-7 years and read up on safety ratings if that's important.
Look for deals online but always try the gear before you buy, good fitting well made boots are really important for your comfort.
>>28492389It needs an exhaust hanger, exhaust slipon, handlebar, rear brake lever, slider/engine mounting bolt, lever and mirror replacement. 2+ months, somehow.
>>28492308could have been leaking for a while. I first caught it 2 weeks ago after a big trip, wiped it off then rode around some more, no leak for a bit.
Just yesterday I hit a tiny pothole (thank you SEA roads), almost bottomed out and it leaked again. From what I've seen it only leaks when compressed past half stroke. This ring is new, made in an afternoon

None of those are even major jobs, it's just

>>28492446if it's been leaking for a while I may have to take the fork off to top up the oil. luckily (or unluckily) the shop manual only mentions the oil level for the left leg, thank you Yamaha
>>28492460The handle bar was my major concern replacing cause I felt like maybe the steering could have been messed up. Idk what the fuck they have done in the last 2 weeks they have had all the parts for 3 wweks now.
>>28492460To be clear 1 month was just me calling insurance because they quoted 3k for the repairs. My insurance went from 25 to 27 a month. But it took insurance 4 weeks to look at the bike and 2 weeks to cut a cheque.

>>28492538DR rider here. Unless they've fucked with the jets or ecu mapping, they're probably doing you a favor. The exhaust on those bikes are nearly always overly heavy for the sound dampening you get, and you're going to want handguards and engine guards to protect your levers and fairings anyway.
>>28491863>>28491874It was so hot on Monday when I went from Cheney, west on US2, then down to Yakima to Enumclaw that my boots melted when I pulled over for water. Think it was like 98. Then I got up in elevation in Rainier National Park and it was 77 with snow on the ground.
>>28492505You're mistaken, they offer a lot and don't restrict ANY of your movement making shifting a DREAM.
Get them anon, trust me. Axial D1s above all else.
I need leathers and boots to treat public road as my private tracks on my dinky 300. Are old leathers really that bad that most people avoid them, you can get them professionally cleaned. As for boots I'm going shiny Chinesium probably
>>28492574Used boots are fine. Used leather jackets aren't. People don't maintain leather enough.

She's just as beautiful as she's always been bikeanons... God Bless Suzuki.
>>28492574>>28492577Dunno where you're getting them but I've bought plenty of leather off eBay and it's fine. You don't have to maintain chrome tanned leather beyond wiping the bugs off.
You can wash a leather jacket in the washing machine with a little dish soap (dish soap is PH-neutral). Take the pads out first. Hang to dry.
>>28492577I get to see the condition of the goodies before I spend the money so I can pick something not totally thrashed. I think most gears are sold off aged less than 2 so it can't be all that bad right? Not like I'm getting someone's race suits, I think a 2 piece would be cheaper and more convenient, and probably not thrashed and crashed (as much)
>>28492587>Get told last night to show up early today for 4hrs of OT.Do you not have a choice?
Gave her some of that purple drank and she's shifting very well now. Hyb
>>28492594>>28492596For me ebay leather jacket was dryer entirely at spots and the one from webike used was like new but thats probably just a fault of the user base. You can get some actually, boots I've had no issue from either.
I really don't know what I want for my first bike, beginner friendly, daily rider, under $7000
>>28492608Small sample. I've bought five or six jackets, two pants and one suit from Ebay and they have been fine, but I also look close at the pictures.
If you had dried out spots the PO probably used some kind of solvent to try and remove paint, etc.
The only problem I've had was sellers spraying perfume in the jacket, as the resellers tend to do. That's why I learned how to wash leathers.
>>28492603Royal Purple? That's stuff's really purple?
>>28492609SV650, gently used.
I need a vote, should i buy a low miles 22 low rider s for 14k or not? i currently have a cb1100 and i've come to find it kind of boring. its a great bike, but it doesn't really do anything great, its also needs practically no maintenance so i don't even get to really work on it. i sold a vtx1800 a few years ago and i constantly think about how much i miss it and the torque. only reason i sold the vtx was because it scraped on almost every turn, basically had to follow speed recommendations through turns. im hoping the low rider can lean a little bit more than the vtx could. the harley having separate drivetrain components is also a huge draw for some reason, ive never liked motorcycle engines being an all in one unit.
Why do people even buy Honda's? Bikes are toys, don't they want to have fun?
>>28492627Why do people even buy Yamahas? Bikes are ment to be reliable so you can ride more, don't they want to ride their bike instead of fixing it all the time?
>>28492627My Honda is my only mode of personal transportation, letโs concede arguendo that Hondas are somewhat less fun than other bikes, i have more fun overall on a Honda because i have practically zero headache or downtime

>>28492704Yes it's good. Checkout other bikes too, cb300r, g310, d390, n300 and so on. R3 is tried and tested, can't go wrong. My only advice is get it with abs.

>>28492711G310 is a good beginner bike for tall people. I'm 6'2" and didn't feel cramped doing my MSF on it. R3 and CB300R will be less roomy, but that's part of the sportbike tradeoff.
