The point is taking the car to its limit. It's not much fun if the limit is twice as fast as you can regularly go.
Best combo: old RWD barges with big lazy engines. Slow enough you can floor them without being at twice the speed limit in 0.3 seconds, good amount of torque for response and drifting. Also can power out of corners like FWD cuckboxes can't.

The grip levels of faster cars make them boring on the street too unless you're a fucking retard doing track speeds in places with solid objects. That's actually why I don't like Corvettes. The cars are too good to the point that they feel boring if you're on a nice cruise.
