This is why you shouldn't drive without traction control and stability control. Computers save lives and would have modulated power appropriately to the driven wheels.

I can mash the gas in my Corvette on wet pavement and have the rear kick loose and have the car instantly straighten out. Computers make it idiot proof. Otherwise I would have wiped out countless times already.

Stability control or FWD would've probably ended up in the concrete barrier but it's speculation.

Yeah RPM was definitely the determining factor in the car losing traction. Had nothing to do with him wildly yanking the wheel, going off the pavement, and spinning all over the place.

More so electronic stability control.

Literally happened to me the other day. The pavement was wet and I applied too much throttle out of a corner and the rear kicked loose. ESC worked its magic and straightened the car out before I applied too much throttle again and it started fishtailing the other way before stopping it. Went back and forth for a few seconds until I found the sweet spot for throttle vs traction.

It depends on the system and implementation in the car. More advanced systems with better programming will be more effective. Modern cars have sensors everywhere. Measure wheel spin, heading, speed, etc. With those systems on the car will modulate power and apply braking as necessary to correct loss of traction and spin outs. It checks this data many times per second, all the time and reacts faster than a human can. It's incredible what computers can do. Let's you do some really stupid shit and get away with it.

>With those systems on the car will modulate power and apply braking as necessary to correct loss of traction and spin outs.
The modulating power part of that equation is called Traction Control, the braking part is called Stability Control. Stability control would have helped here, traction control is intended to solve a different set of problems.

I'm not him but have worked 3 years in engineering in an ABS / TCS / ESP plant and signed off on BOMs. There is nothing special about EVs for this, mech LSDs are better at distrubuting power than the fanciest EVs you're falling for the advertising. Stability control just hits certain brakes, rotating the car in a way, to understeer you in stead of oversteer - it doesn't care what you use for accelerating the wheels.

>Ok, here is a rough explanation. I was on my way to college in Denton going south on I-35. I noticed that the lifted truck wasn't really passing the simi truck. So I was like whatever ill just pass. As soon as I start merging in to the left line the pick-up truck revs up behind me and get like a foot away. So I speed up to put some distance in-between us. “This is where the video starts” I end up coming up on the red car inftont of me pretty fast and I had to slow down. The truck then passes the semi and moves over to get even with me. You can see him break to get even. I'm thinking he's going to roll his window down and cuss me out, but no he just jerks his car in my lane. This took me off guard you can then see me jerk left to avoid him because my car is small enough that he could easily drive over me. I clipped the gravel strip on the side of the highway and spun out. Literally that entire time I'm spinning I can't see a thing and I was pretty much driving off instinct and how the car feels. I was mostly ok really banged up, but ok. Still went to school like an hr later . Sadly the Miata didn't make it. The simi took a solid bite out of it. The frame was so bent that I had to kick the driver's side door to get out and it dented it in a bit. Rip my miata tho I rebuilt that car by hand twice swapped in a new engine, transmission and everything That car was my baby . Hopefully in the future when I get out of college I can save up to buy another one. Thanks for all the help and support. I'll keep y'all updated on what the police and insurance do. Ima try to press changes at least.

That would explain why TSC/ESC failed on the 2008 Miata. There's only so much that can do. Especially on a 17 year old car which I'm assuming newer cars have more advanced implementations of those systems. Maybe if the expert could weigh in more on that.

Is this why gt classes have 7+ level selectable tc and abs and unless you and your track conditions are always perfect and perfectly repeatable, levels 1-2 TC are almost universally faster than full off?
SOME slip is faster than no slip, but no person can perfectly slip all the time. SOME tc is faster than no TC. Life isnt a video game.

But since I understand you're talking about generally regular cars, with generally TC being an on/off situation, and in the best of cases a 3 or 4 mode setting with a "track/race" TC setting not being adjustable and generalized, I also understand why you're saying this.

It's still wrong though.
SOME tc is always going to be faster than none at all because no driver can be perfect, no tire can be a constant temp, no track a constant, and no track a perfectly repeatable grip level.
And especially on normal roads, yeah tell me a race mode TC off is faster I'll laugh in your fucking face.

It's braking hydraulic unit. It does ABS / TCS/ ESP and some of the stupid shit with advertising names manufacturers have come up with.
The system has sensors at the wheels that detect slip. In the unit it uses magnet valves and a DC motor to run the pump. It's a bunch of solenoids yes. I was usually ESD strapped on an ESD mat working on this stuff. Just posting random google images.

Could've been prevented by being more aggressive and deciding to leave the truck driver behind when he started tailgating. If he'd have gotten around the semi and weaved through/into the traffic ahead where the truck can't fit, he'd have no problems.
He had room to brake, too, when he thought the guy was going to yell at him. Seems to me he was too passive and reactive. Maybe I'm just justifying my own aggressive habits but I think it would have helped.

Give me AWD and all the electronic nannies in the world. When I yank the steering wheel at the last second because I was too busy phone posting to notice a hazard, I want my car do what I instruct it to instantly.
Same shit with EVs which are just plain superior to ICE: only one gear so when you apply throttle you get all the power instantly. If I want to drive off NOW I want all available power NOW, not after having to down shift and wait for the RPM to catch up.

The population here dwindled so much, now it feels like there's maybe two dozen posters, and about 90% of posts/replies are from the same three autistic shut-ins (you know who). They don't drive their cars, they don't post about track days, races, road trips, or anything related to driving. They just recycle the same handful of five year old photos of their cars and yell at other people (for driving cars they've never driven).
>>28498879
It wasn't the car or the ESC/TSC, it was the driver. This type of overcorrection is a common cause of highway accidents. You've no doubt seen dozens of clips of SUV drivers doing the same thing as that miata, but they end up rolling over. There's only so much using your brakes can do to save the car at that point when the steering inputs are so wrong. Also notice the driver didn't hold the brakes, that mistake alone is what caused him to get hit by the truck.

>But why do that twice? Did he wire the brakes or something else wrong?
Who knows. Maybe he threw a turbo on the first engine, it blew, so he replaced it with a 2.5 liter or something. It's a common track car.

Aren't Miata drivers supposed to be a bit more experienced in such situations? As >>28499046 reminds just below your reply.
>Also notice the driver didn't hold the brakes
Yeah, I did, in the other thread. You don't do that in such situations, especially instinctively (as he supposedly claims in the green pasta above), the instinct is to press even harder.

I don't understand your point, can you try rephrasing. Holding the brakes during/after a spin is not something all people do instinctively, if you ever go on a track you'll hear them teach this to you because it's important. But it definitely would have saved his bacon here. Also if he just hadn't overcorrected so badly it wouldn't have been a situation at all.

If the miata driver didn't escalate the situation with the truck, the truck probably would have just went to the next closest person to tailgate. Unless the miata was too SLOW to get away bmaooo

I meant that Miatafags are known for bragging about both their driving skills and tracking their cars, and in 28497842, which is supposedly what the NC driver himself has written somewhere else, he mentions multiple swaps that probably mean extensive track usage (I too don't believe you can fuck a Mazda up that hard by regular driving). And people with track experience usually know what to do and what to don't in both types of situations: clipping the grass at high speed and spinning while other cars or obstacles are in close proximity.
Same for overcorrections, he must have been majorly distracted to do that imo, but he was actively tailgating another car right before the accident. Usually people are more concentrated while tailgating.

In another post he said he "couldn't even see until the car stopped spinning". He sounds like a scared kid not an experienced driver. He also said in the above comment that he was moving quickly to get away from the truck and came up on the red car much faster than he intended. He had tunnel vision on the truck and was losing situational awareness.

Yes they are different. Lift off oversteer is usually quite progressive and NOT sudden. Where as snap oversteer is sudden and is most common on mid and rear engined cars because more weight transfers faster than with a front engined car.
