Total newfag here. I just want something cheap that doesn’t drink gas and doesn’t need $1000 in repairs every other month.
Is there any car out there that’s actually economical or am I better off never owning one?
What do I get that won’t make me regret it?

Picrel is one of the better options. Small and hybrid, basically.

What are you doing to your cars that makes them require a mechanic every other month. That's not normal.

Get a Honda fit. First or second gen sport if you can. Third gen went solid rear axle for some reason. GD3 or GE8 specifically. Cheap FF sports car entry, yes it is. Same chassis reinforcement as the s2k, manual 5spd, meme tech, basically the the new 3k civic is a 5k fit.

Used miats, focus st's, s2000's, and is300's can all be found under 10 grand and have easy repairs and good milage.
I've seen e39 528i's go for 5 grand easy too, but you know.
Priuses made since 2019 come in awd versions if dealing with snow or loose surfaces is an issue (I'd suggest the '23 or '24 models).

I may have gotten my lists mixed up somewhere. Still an option thoughbeit.
Speaking of which, used Golf R's are another option for entry level awd.

None of those cars on the list are cheap.
Most of them get riced up and treated poorly by owners so reliability could definitely be in question.
.t I know ST owners very well.

>>28503740
This.
The older Avalon platform is absurdly reliable.
That and the ES350 that shares it.
I don't think Toyota or Lexus are ever going to get back to that level of quality.

I enjoy modifying cars so buying something cheap and replacing busted parts with higher quality upgrades is the play for me.
People will buy something new then just immediately throw out all the OEM parts anyways for builds so really you're getting more value on multiple angles that way. When you need to replace something regardless it's just as well you replace it with something good, you're doing or paying for the labour the same in any case.

This lancer may have been sitting on jacks for the past 6 months while I drive a corolla but once it's finished you'll be sorry. It's already 90% done (for the last 5 months) you'll see.
