I have a r410a manifold gauge set (field piece) I bought few years ago but I need to work on my car's AC system, what adapter set size do I need to get and which one have you had luck with that won't leak?

Whatever, I’m pretty sure R134a is a lower PSI than 410a so you should be fine.

Read the little nameplate under the hood, make sure it’s R-134a or R1234yf or whatever, and go on Amazon and find the adapters for that refrigerant. 134a has the goofy quick connects. I have cheap Orion stuff from Amazon and they hold a vacuum fine when doing work on shitboxes as long as the seals and o-rings are in good condition. I think* the manifold gauge hoses are all a common thread and should spin straight onto the quick connect fittings.

Also if you’re using little 12oz cans to refill, you will need the proper can tap.

For one time automtive use, you could also order the whole set of 134a/1234yf or whatever manifold gauges and adapters for prob $50 on Amazon. The one thing about cheap gauges is they’re cheap and not always super accurate, but who the hell is doing PT stuff on automotive, just dump your 1.5lbs of 134a into an evacuated system and go live your life.

There’s the quick connects for R134a

They’re not threaded. Quick connect and then a knob to push in the shrader valve.

And then the other one is a can tap for the self sealing cans. Some other people like the puncture ones. I never had an issue with the self sealers, flip that can upside down on a hot day and you can send 2lbs of liquid into the low pressure line real quick.

And also slug the compressor causing it to explode.

i spent weeks trying to find a cheap set of hoses/adapters that could fit on r12 systems until i stumbled upon a little HVAC shop tucked away in an industrial area that had a few complete sets for just 10 bucks each. worked perfectly fine for me even though the exterior rubber sheath was starting to dry rot.
