Wonder if they use the dry sump oiling system because they're mounted vertically like that.

No emission, no vacuum, no radiator, no ABS module, no brake booster, no a/c condenser, no power steering pump, no A/C compressor, just a whole lot of shit missing. It's really just the long block and a few accessories and that's it.

However when you see one IRL they are pretty large massive for an outboard.

Yes, they're massive. That picture doesn't don't justice. They weigh 1,300lbs.

ive seen some really cheap outboard motors at auction sites, why dont folks use these for swaps in their cars?

They did in Cuba during the trade embargo.
They suck.
"Cheap outboard at auction" is probably the 75hp family.
Ya theyre insane in a 15.foot fiberglass boat but in a 3,000 pound car its terminal.

Wonder how well a regular car cooler would handle these. They may be designed to pull a constant stream of water from the outside, and might run into overheating issues with a loop.

The blocks in an outboard stand upright, so you'd either have to use a 90° gearbox to get the output shaft in the right direction, or completely rework the oiling system to lay the engine flat. The raw water cooling system dumps into the exhaust, so you'd have to build new manifolds and seal off the cooling system to run it with a radiator. Likely would run an electric water pump because you wouldn't have the impeller anymore since those are usually down in the drive unit. Plus a whole host of other shit that would come with flipping the motor sideways. It's a lot more fabrication work than is typically worth it, unless the boat engine is some oddball engine you couldn't otherwise get like that guy that threw a 2 stroke Evenrude V8 in his volvo. Or you could just hook the prop shaft of an outboard up to your trans input and leave the whole thing sticking out of the hood kek. It's way easier to marinize a car engine than de-marinizing a boat engine.
>tl;dr more people don't do it because it's a shitload of work

150 2 strokes on a sub 18' almost empty fiber glass hull is a normal thing in my country. They often run them with tiller handles. It's rough around here so they so they spend more time out the water than they do in it.

We actually have more opportunity and international connections with a booming tourism industry. Just significantly more nigs. We have a theory than 90% of our initial slave population come from the congo basin. Most "African Americans" who come here aren't considered black enough to claim to be black for example. It's pretty hilarious and quite a riot, even as a white guy, if you are willing to wild up.

Some heavy-duty inboard boat engines are actually quite similar to those found in industrial generator sets, haulers, armored vehicles and such.
Though all of those tend to be quite large and heavily built (~1000 kg for a 300-400 hp engine), built to run at high power all day for weeks or months at a time and output max power+torque at around 1500 RPM, so they'd probably suck even worse than an outboard engine in a regular car.

we've looked into marine motors for a top secret boat-but-not-quite-boat project. all routes lead us to "get a fucking ls".
Anonymous No.28504489 [Report] >>28504526
>>28504434
Inboard boat engines make decent vehicle swaps because they usually have pretty beefy internals compared to the roadgoing version and are usually spiced up a little as well as they have an infinite cooling capacity and no regulations to meet. They're also going to have less wear than a road engine. You just have to make sure they're not cracked. If you're willing to make the cooling system work then they make decent swaps but a normal LS is obviously easier.

it's more boat than not boat, but even if we could use outboard water cooling, the answer was "get a marinized ls".

I have never seen a horizontal block on an outboard. You would have to have at least one 90 degree gearbox no matter what as you have the main shaft coming from the power head down to the foot. With a horizontally mounted engine you would need 2.

80% of consumer inboards from wakeboats to big cabin cruisers are just Chevy or Ford small blocks.

Not if you laid the stripped powerhead down in a typical automotive configuration with the crank horizontal. As stated, you'd need to rework pretty much everything oil and coolant related to do that though.

Industrail monotasker, it was meant to spin a thing between 1900 and 2100 rpm, forever, at minimal fuel use.

Most inboard engines in my cunt are diesels, often based on semi tractor or generator set engine blocks. Big gasoline engines are rare here.
Might just be because nobody used to care if you ran your boat on heating oil, which wasn't taxed like diesel or gasoline.

do they run a reduction gear ?
I've seen a few boats with SR20DET and a 3 to 1 drive reduction
